Vehicle Detail
1993 968 TiptronicThanks to all of you who placed bids! The bidding ran out of steam just a bit before it reached my reserve of $5500. I now offer the car at a fixed price of $5495, and that price if firm. If it doesn't sell at this price, I will just keep the car a while longer. Feel free to contact me with questions. A Few Highlights:-Water pump, timing belt, balance shaft belt, front engine seal, rollers replaced 10000 miles ago-17" Boxster S Wheels-New front slotted rotors-A/C works great!-Sunroof, Windows, Door locks and handles, and hatch release all work -New battery and Bosch wiper blades -Rust-free -No oil leaks (and does not burn oil)-Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil during entire ownership period-Owned by a Non-Smoker since 2004 (and possibly before)-Comes with Porsche Factory Car Bra (Street Price of $120)_______________________________________________This beautiful 968 is Amazon Green Metallic (which looks very similar to ocean blue), is equipped with an automatic Tiptronic transmission, and features complementing 2002 17" Boxster S wheels, a $1200 upgrade back in 2005. The previous owner completely replaced the stereo system back in 2003 with an Alpine head unit with Alpine speakers. That same previous owner was quite the perfectionist and also had the car repainted by a Porsche-authorized paint center, installed a dash cover, and overhauled the interior with tasteful carbon-fiber appointments. To be honest, I would rather not part with this fine Porsche and had intended to keep her as a daily driver for another 5 years/60,000 miles; however, marriage and Ph.D. work have forced me to alter those plans. At 128,000 miles, all belts and rollers were replaced, as well as the water pump and thermostat. The car has brand-new slotted front rotors (with less than 50 miles on them) and a brand new battery. Also, within the past 100 miles, I had the coil and power steering belt turnbuckle replaced. The spark plug wires were replaced 5000 miles ago, and 15000 miles ago, the spark plug seals and camshaft gasket were replaced. (A recent camshaft and variocam inspection turned up no problems at all.) 10 miles ago (10 days ago), I installed high-end Bosch wiper blades in the car at a cost of $44. Unlike so many 80s/early 90s Porsches that I have seen, the hatch carpeting looks great, for the previous owner had it replaced around 2003. The rear tires will need to be replaced fairly soon; I estimate that they have about 4000-5000 miles left on them. The front tires, on the other hand, have a lot of life left (i.e., 15000 miles or so). Also, this car received minor hail damage several years ago, but anyone who has seen it has never thought that it detracted from the car’s appearance in any significant way. In fact, the marks are light enough that I cannot seem to capture them with my camera, no matter how hard I try. The driver’s side seat has seen better days, and, for this reason, I use a seat cushion. A minor problem that arises from time to time involves the central locking button; it sometimes locks one door and unlocks the other. In such cases, I just manually unlock or lock the other door to restore their working in tandem. (Both door levers and locks work just fine, however.) Another issue with the car is that the rear hatch needs to be resealed, for, when the car is in motion, air noise can be detected. (To clarify the extent of the issue, I can say that the hatch doesn't leak in a downpour, but a bit of water can creep in if the car is sprayed with a pressure washer.) As with many late 80s and early 90s of the 928 and 944 series, the odometer has stopped functioning on this machine. (I have owned five Porsches from the 944 line, and the odometers of ALL of them stopped working at one time or another.) Thankfully, this happened rather recently and the odometer currently reads 136,500. I have estimated 138,500 miles, which is on the low side of reality. (I took a 1400 mile trip in the car shortly after the odometer stopped working, but since then I have driven the car very little. My mechanic, wife, and father can attest to this claim.) This truly is a beautiful, modern-looking Porsche for a nice price with all major maintenance issues recently addressed. I am going to miss her and hope she goes to an owner than will appreciate her as much as I have these past 7.5 years! As of April of 2010, I owned 5 Porsches. This 968 is the last to go in the big Porsche sell-off, and I'm not sure how I am going to react to being Porscheless for the first time in 12 years. Therefore, the buyer will have to be able to handle a few tears from this Porschephile as his last toy drives off into the sunset...
