Vehicle Detail
This little beauty was listed by me this past August. Buyer very reluctantly canceled due to a change in financial circumstances. Only two owners (not counting the cat who only thinks he's the owner.) This car was babied from the dealer floor, religiously maintained. Complete history including all receipts; original window sticker; owner's manual; and original front license plate (never installed). Haynes shop manual, and PDF of Mazda factory service manual included with purchase. (I'll even provide PDFs of first road tests by Road & Track and Car and Driver magazines.) Interior: amazingly good condition, overall, without regard for age. Driver's seat bolster collapsed on lower left side, but still functional (you won't find yourself sliding into the door handle, at least not under "normal operating conditions!"). Center dash cover finally died of sun poisoning. Right side air vent (top corner of dash) missing. Otherwise, all straight and almost like new. Rear hatch carpet, locked storage containers, speaker towers, all A-OK. Mini-spare with spoked wheel, included. First owner didn't want any extras except AC. So no power steering or power windows. All systems working just fine when last driven (about 2 years ago). Original stereo cassette deck works fine, looks great at night. Equalizer doesn't work so good, but also looks great at night. Body: all panels straight; paint and clear coat still very nice. A couple scrapes and dings, but nothing major. Windshield replaced at about 150,000. Rear hatch still tight and clear; pneumatic posts and window defroster work too. Both pop-up headlights in good working order. Engine: blown apex, front chamber. Oil seals badly worn since I bought it in 2004 (I just added oil more frequently.). K&N-type air intake; Pacesetter powder coated header feeds a single aftermarket catalyst into original mufflers. (GREAT, muted rumble exhaust note. None of that raspy stuff to annoy the neighbors.) Electric fan, newer radiator, and auxiliary cooling fan. Drive train: complete Mazdatrix clutch job, with less than 10,000 miles on it; including Mazdatrix replacement shift lever bushing kit (really nice, snick-snick shift action). Tranny still tight and filled with RedLine MTL. Newer drive shaft. Rear end tight and quiet. Suspension & brakes: shocks and springs stock, still tight, still dry; 4-bolt hubs with newer calipers all around; braided steel brake lines all around (including clutch line); nearly new zinc-coated rotors, drilled and grooved. Porterfield Street/Comp pads up front (highly recommended). Tires have plenty of wear left too. A few miscellaneous parts go included with purchase, nothing to get excited about, though. Drop in a rebuilt '88 motor and you've got a crazy-fun ride that's still one of the best-handling vehicles to ever hit our shores. It's what I wanted to do, but I'm just too damn old for that sort of shade tree wrenching. My loss, your gain. I may shed a few tears when you collect my little girl. Where ya at!
