Vehicle Detail
Vehicle was bought on ebay in 2006 from a farmer's son in Iowa. The farmer was the first owner. According to the man, the truck had a blown a main bearing in the early 60's and had sat in a covered/dry shed until he had placed it on ebay. The truck came with another '54 engine block which they had bough to replace the blown one, but both engines were beyond repair when I aquired it. Odometer/speedometer reads 44,777 miles, it was making a noise so I disconnected it, Ive put on 20 miles since. The engine was replaced with a 1953 Chevy 235 Blue Flame 6 Cylinder Engine (235.5 Cubic Inch - 115 Horse Power). The carburetor has been cleaned and engine tuned so it starts, idles and revs perfectly. All components of the engine have been gone through and either replaced or rebuild by a professional mechanic. Other parts of the truck which are new include: •a new starter •new clutch and pressure plate •new 'U' joints •new fuel pump •new water pump •new brake cylinders and shoes •new points and plugs The tires and wheels were 'take offs' and had originally only had a few miles on them, 'like new' condition (they are from a Ford) . The radiator has been flushed and the fuel tank been cleaned thuroughly. Originally came without a bumper so one has been fabricated out of heavy duty iron. Has the original wood bed in moderate condition for its age, no rot. Body has original teal paint job and the patina is quite charming, Sound body has some surface rust, with few small holes: diver-side step, front drivers side quarter panel, back wheel well, and cab floor (see photos through the photo bucket album link below). The interior is in need of repair, cardboard is warped an sagging in places. Seat has tears in fabric. The driving experience is typical of a 1950's truck, no texting while driving this vehicle! Feels most stable under 45 mi/hr. Keep in mind this truck has no power breaks or steering and driving it is a two handed affair. The title is not original but is for the same '54 truck model (from a salvaged unit). I haven't found myself using the truck as much as I had anticipated (just bought an Evo X) so I hoping this will go to someone who will enjoy it. There are more photos available through the photo bucket link below, please email with any questions, including my phone number if you wish to talk. Here are some more photos: http://s1196.photobucket.com/albums/aa403/leswray/Vehicle can be picked up in Madison WI, sold as is. Please ask questions before bidding, as it is a contract to buy. If you are in the area, please feel free to arrange a test drive/inspection. I am also listing this on Craigslist.org, so I reserve the right to cancel this auction if it sells before its 'end'. Good luck bidding, its a prime cantidate for someone who wants to continue the restoration of an early 50's gem!
