Vehicle Detail
This is our 1993 Jeep Cherokee which we bought new off the lot in 1993. It took our young family on camping trips to the High Sierras, to days out on the beach, to cross-country trips into the Rockies. It lived in the desert for its first 5 years or so, then we moved to the Midwest, where it hauled us out of snowbanks, guided us safely over icy highways, and took us camping many times. It has 242,000 honorable miles on it and it's still running. It's not as pretty as it once was; rust, as you can see, and there's more underneath. The low-beam headlights don't work (shorted out somewhere) and we have been dealing with it by using the high beams redirected lower. There's something making a noise in the left front quarter when we turn sharply left. The exhaust system needs replaced, as it's rusted through. On the other hand, there's that beautiful straight six engine which just keeps on plugging along. The A/C is nice and cold, the 4WD works great, and the tires have lots of tread on them. The brakes are good. The transmission is good. Much as I hate to say it, this could make a great parts Jeep. I hope someone who loves and appreciates old Jeeps will buy it and fix it up, but at least we didn't kill it with the Cash for Clunkers program a couple of years ago (shudder). Old Jeeps never die, you know that, don't you? Here's a video my husband took when the Jeep rolled over 200,000 miles. Let's see: Well, we added the tow package, and I think we added the roof rack. We also had the back springs upgraded to leaf springs at Spike's Jeep Garage in Lancaster, California. All this was a very long time ago. It has a radio and a cassette player, no CD player. There are 3 seatbelts in back. All 3 of our little kids used to line up back there for car trips. Good memories. Oh, and we had window tinting added long long ago, but it's peeling off now. If you'd like to come take a look at the Jeep, we are in New Albin, Iowa, zip 52160. We're about half an hour off the I-90 on the Minnesota/Iowa border, right on the Mississippi River. We are selling our Jeep because we need an energy efficient commuter car more than we need a rolling box of memories. Take good care of it, please.
