Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my '79 CJ5, which I've owned for about 4 years. I purchased this Jeep when I still lived in sunny and dry western Colorado, so be clear that this is NOT is rusty midwestern Jeep. This Jeep is very capable off road, is a blast to drive, and turns heads! Ready for Moab, Utah! Unfortunately, as much as it breaks my heart, family obligations and revised priorities cause me to make the decision that it has to go to make room for something more practical. While I would not consider this a complete 'restoration', see all the specs below, and all parts listed as "new" have been installed within the past 3 years or 4,000 miles. I have put a tremendous amount if time and money into it to make it a reliable, trail and road worthy vehicle. All work has been performed by me, and I am a service training instructor for a construction equipment manufacturer so I am certainly qualified to do so. Don't be fooled by other so called 'frame off restorations' that show up here on ebay. Often, they are only paint jobs without a professional around for the drivetrain, suspension, electrical, and other critical aspects to make the Jeep reliable and perform properly. This Jeep is in mechanically excellent condition, with an older paint job and a body showing the dents and scratches of real life. There is no significant rust on the frame and body, just light surface rust in some spots. The rear diamond plate corners do hide damage from a previous owners makeshift tire carrier. It is comfortable driving 60 mph on the interstate , I have driven it on several hundred mile road trips without incident, and I would trust it to drive a distance right now. I drive it to work often, but do not drive it on rainy days, and certainly not in the winter with all the road salt. It is 100% garage kept since I have owned it. The suspension tracks straight without drama, there are no vibrations, and the brakes stop on a dime. The engine runs excellent, and the clutch, transmission, and transfer case shift great. There are no mechanical problems with this vehicle. The only oil leak is a small leak from the power steering box input shaft, which leaves a small drip every once in a while. According to the build codes on the VIN data plate on the firewall, this Jeep was originally a limited edition 1979 Silver 25th Anniversary CJ5 built in Brampton, Ontario. Unfortunately, all the items which made it a silver anniversary - special silver paint, special black vinyl seats with silver buttons, 304 V8, 3 speed manual, chrome wheels, dash plaque - are all long gone, although the silver paint is still visible in the engine compartment.
