This Barents Blue Metallic with Sandstone Beige leather interior Volvo Certified 2008 XC70 is an offroad-themed version of Volvo's traditional V70 wagon.

Purchase of this Volvo includes the balance of the Volvo Certified warranty valid through 10/21/2013 or 100,000 miles.

Options include the Premium Package which adds leather seats, a power moonroof, wood inlays and a power passenger seat.

The Convenience Package adds a power tailgate and park assist, a sunglass holder and tinted glass.

The Climate Package adds heated front and rear seats and heated windshield washer nozzles.

Additional options include Metallic Paint, Blind Spot Information System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Brake System Pre-Charge and Satellite Radio (subscription required).

The XC70 is also significantly updated from the 2007 model it replaces.

XC70, revamped with more style and power for 2008, is the hiking-boot version of the V70 station wagon. The most obvious differences are roughneck styling and raised suspension, while a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system lurks beneath.

Compared with the previous XC70, the wheelbase grows by almost 2 inches, the overall length by 4 inches and the engine by one cylinder.

Gone is the turbocharged inline-5 in favor of a 235-horsepower V-6 that provides more power and cruising comfort.

The wagon is now based on the chassis of Volvo's big sedan, S80, rather than the midsize S60, giving it a more-solid platform as well as larger size. Volvo has lifted XC70 to make it a viable alternative to bulkier crossovers flooding the market.

Volvo has a long history of building roomy and versatile station wagons with the 1990s Cross Country version of V70 being its first foray into adventure wagons.

Then as now, rugged body trim was part of what set these wagons apart, though the form of a solid, sensible Volvo lies under the cladding.

Even though the XC70 isn't the most distinctive car, it stands out among family-haulers. Simple Swedish design wins out in this group; picking the XC70 might be a value choice, but it still makes a statement in the style department.

Like the S80 sedan it's based on, the 2008 XC70's interior is a huge leap forward in refinement and ergonomics, and it has plenty of upscale features as well.

The materials are exceptionally pleasing to the touch. The doors are finished in leather with lots of padding to make them nice and soft. The leather steering wheel is substantial.

Both the driver and front passenger seats are exceptionally comfortable. The elegantly simple dashboard with a nicely grained finished. There are digital information displays inside the tachometer and speedometer.

The center controls are on Volvo's trademark "floating stack," a thin console that connects from the middle of the dashboard to the shifter.

The rear seats are split 40/20/40, and the outboard ones are heated.

The rear cargo area is simply huge. It's both long and wide, and you be able to fit full-size golf bags across the back perfectly. The load floor's low height also makes everyday tasks like loading and unloading groceries or luggage much easier to handle.

Under the cargo floor is a shallow compartment that runs almost all the way from the bumper to the backseat. The floor lifts up with a pull of a handle, and it has a hydraulic strut so it stays up without you needing to hold onto it.

There's also a very well-done hook system built into the cargo floor. Heavy-duty metal hooks slide forward and back and flip up into place easily. Once flipped up, they lock tight so cargo nets and other tie-downs will be secure.

The XC70 comes with a 235-horsepower inline-six-cylinder engine that delivers competent power in city and highway driving. All-wheel drive is standard. Hill Descent Control is designed to keep the XC70's speed at 6 mph when traversing challenging terrain.

Safety and Volvo go together hand-inhand, and the XC70 has plenty of standard and optional safety features.
