Vehicle Detail
1973 Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special project car (needs work). The engine runs and has great oil pressure but it eventually overheats and it drips oil. The five-speed transmission works in all gears and the clutch works but the clutch cable broke two weeks ago as I was demonstrating the car -- a new Lotus clutch cable from JAE is included for you to install. The brakes need work so the car should not be driven as it is. This will need to be towed/trailered from zip code 60062 by early October. The paint is peeling on the hoods and in general this Europa needs new paint. Much of the paint (L15) and pinstriping is apparently original, and in JPS style, but there is no JPS plaque. The front bumper has a minor dent (see the first picture) but the fiberglass body is solid and straight. The black interior is in fairly nice condition. The odometer shows 24,390 miles but I can't guarantee that's accurate. Other miscellaneous work is needed such as the ignition switch is finicky, the parking brake doesn't work (a replacement cable will be included), the weatherstripping is deteriorating and the windshield has a crack straight down from the rear view mirror. The BUY-IT-NOW price includes the four very nice Panasport alloy wheels with decent Michelin tires which are shown on the car in the pictures. These Panasport wheels/tires are not included if you do not BUY-IT-NOW, but would then be available for additional cost. In any case, the winning bidder will get the four original cosmic wheels with old tires. Note: I removed the luggage tray for the engine compartment pictures, but it is included with the car. The car has a clear Illinois title in my name and current Illinois registration as a normal passenger car. This is my second Europa project (the first was an S2) and I love this car but I've recently become too busy in my career to work on it so it really should go to someone who has the time. If it doesn't sell I'll probably keep it as a longer-term project. If you like to tinker with exotic or race cars there is no other street car like the Lotus Europa Twin Cam Special, weighing only about 1700 pounds and having a 100 HP mid engine. It even gets great gas mileage...
