Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my lovely 1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto. A new addition to our family forces me to sell it. As you can see in the pictures, it's a really beautiful car. Please keep in mind that this is an old car, so it is not perfect. I consider it a nice driver, not a trailer queen. Having said that, this is a real head turner. I get comments all the time about it and have been proud to drive this car. This beautiful, documented car was originally owned by a gentleman in Brescia, in Northern Italy, and was exported to the UK where it was nicely restored by an Alfa expert. The fact this car stayed in Italy most of its life explains the low mileage (66292 kilometers or 41500 miles) because they don't drive as much or great distances in Italy like we do in the US. I also like very much that it stayed in Italy for so long because I know it was properly maintained by Italian mechanics who understand Italian cars and have complete and easy access to factory parts. In fact, I know of no part on this car that is not a factory part, other than consumables like spark plugs, etc. During the restoration in the UK, a 1750 carbureted engine was installed from a 1971 Euro Spider. At the same time, a hydraulic clutch was also installed. For the picky collector, I do have the original engine block to keep the car "numbers matching". Then, around 2003, the car was imported to the US and went to California, where it stayed until more recently. The car runs well, could even be driven every day, and has no known rust (other than some surface rust in the spare tire well). The color is the original off white called Bianco Farina (or Pininfarina), paint code AR008, and the paint is nice and glossy. The interior is also very nice and the original rubber mats are still there under the added carpeting. The top is pretty much perfect. The exhaust system is essentially new. The car still has its original and rare 15 X 4.5 wheels and the correct sized tires have about 500 miles on them. Everything works; the only things that I know need attention are that the horns work when they feel like it (I hear the relay clicking, but the horns don't always sound); the driver's door does not open from the inside (there is a 3 cent plastic actuating rod that is missing); and the steering wheel is mounted upside down. As you can see in the picture of the nose, the nose still maintains its original dimple, which can be felt from the underside, so it was never hit there, which is really rare. The interior is really nice. The seats have no tears, or even noticeable wear. Even the steering wheel is the original Duetto wheel. Wheels and hubcaps also original (all five). The car comes with a binder full of documentation of history and maintenance. Please ask any questions before bidding, and I will be happy to answer. Please note that I can only answer questions after office hours EST, but will do so daily. On Sep-09-11 at 14:56:58 PDT, seller added the following information: New Information Added 9/9/11 I thought it might be helpful to see the underside of the car, so I added some pictures. Unfortunately, I don't have a lift, but I was able to lie down on the garage floor, put the camera on the floor and snap a few representative shots. As you can plainly see, there is no rust at all under there. You can see where some undercoating came away, which I wanted to show to demonstrate that the car has not had any flaws covered up. I hope these are helpful to you when you consider this rare car in rare condition. Cheers. On Sep-11-11 at 07:02:36 PDT, seller added the following information: In order to offer the best possible deal (for the buyer) and to ensure the sale (for me), I have reduced (essentially eliminated) the reserve price to under $10,000, which is an amazing deal for such a car. I can't imagine anyone ever being disappointed in this car. It goes without saying, because this car is 45 years old, that I can't offer any warranties or guarantees to the buyer, but I have done my best to describe this car as well as I could. The buyer will be responsible for arranging and paying for shipment of the car, however, I will do all I can to support the buyer in making the car available for shipment or pickup.
