Vehicle Detail
Well as you can see from my history here on ebay, I love motorcycles and any vehicle really. I have been a long time Harley fan, untill the last few years, when I started to realize Harleys are still air cooled. I have had over 500 bikes and I started to think about it a bit. My Harleys, were rough to ride, parts are expensive and they had really old technology. This led to some research and I started to realize there are only a handful of bikes out there that will go over a 100,000 miles without a major rebuild. You have your Honda Goldwings, and BMWs and a handful of other bikes that are either rumors or some one took really good care of or they are just flukes of nature from the factory. So, you are asking why is this guy ranting on about bikes and reliability? Well, I am a little obsessed, some would say nuts, I prefer the word passionate. My point here is that over the last couple of years BMW has become my favorite bike manufacturer. Why? Well for me they are refined, run forever, comfortable, and well built; to put it shortly they are everything I think a motorcycle sould be. So naturally when I saw that the city of Albuquerque, New mexico was selling off some of their old police fleet, I loaded up the truck and drove for two days to get there and ended up bringing two bikes back home with me. This bike is the first of the two bikes and is in the best shape. I put a battery in it and a starter motor relay and it fired right up. The speedo says it has 9000 miles on it. The title also says 9000 miles wich was signed off by the police department down there. Having been into bikes my whole life, I think the bike has more miles than that or was used in traning because the front tire is worn pretty good. The bike also just feels like if has more miles to me, but hey, who is to say? It may actually have only 9000 on it. I just want to be fair and let you all know what you are bidding on so we both end up happy. This bike would be a fun bike for some one . It seems to run well, and with a little tinkering, could be a great bike. Stuff that needs tinkering with: the police department took off the rear tail light lens on all of the bikes, so this one would need a new tail light lens. Ebay is a good sorce or the dealer has them available for around 100 bucks. It needs mirrors; again ebay is the best source. I have seen several on ebay for around the 20 dollar range. It would need a new front tire before I would do any long trips on it. Also the seat has some rips in it; I don't think the sun down there is good on seats. I am located 10 miles from Salt Lake City and can pick you up from the airport for free, or I will help with loading for your shipping company. Shipping arrangments are up to the winning bidder, but I will help any way I can. Please feel free to call me and ask any questions 801-637-0263, as I will be out of town for most of next week and not near the internet. Good luck bidding and thanks for looking!!!!! What is so great about this motorcycle? Where does one start? The R1100RT, and the new R1200RT, handle like sport bikes, aided as they are by the unique telelever front suspension and paralever rear. With the telelever front end, you can brake as hard as you want, and an RT will not dive. I have ridden RTs on Road America, Elkhart Lake, at speeds over 120 mph and rounded tight corners at speeds and lean angles I though would be impossible for a street bike to handle—without ruffling the R1100RT. Unless you are a professional racer, chances are that the RT can ride a lot better on a track than you can. It has ABS (anti-lock braking system) for added safety in foul weather or panic situations (which is why the California Highway Patrol now uses R1100RT- Ps exclusively and eschews Kawasakis and Harleys). It has fuel injection, four-valve heads, and puts out 90 horsepower. It has a windshield that is electrically adjustable for height with the push of your left thumb. It has standard waterproof saddlebags and an optional top case for great luggage capacity. And the whole package is just plain beautful. (In my opinion, only one motorcycle can rival the R1100RT or R1200RT for sheer beauty . . . ) The R1100RT has received numerous awards from motorcycle magazines. Cycle World selected the RT as the Best Liter-Class Sport-Tourer in 1998, 1997, and the year it was introduced, 1996. Rider Magazine chose the RT as the Top Liter-Class Sport-Tourer in 1999, 1998, 1997, and 1996. In 1996 the Robb Report named the RT as one of the world's eight best motorcycles. In 2000—somewhat surprisingly—even Motorcyclist named the RT Best Tourer. The R1100RT and the new R1200RT are best known as “Sport Tourers.” You can get on one and ride across America without worry or inconvenience. And when you hit those fabulous mountain or twisty roads, the smile will not leave your face.
