Vehicle Detail

1965 Triumph TR-4 Overdrive optioned car Frame off restoration Complete books and receipts Up for bids is this show quality Triumph TR4.  The car was completely restored in 2004, frame off, every nut and bolt.  A full mechanical rebuild was also done, as well as all new suspension and brakes, this car looks, runs, and drives like new.  The car comes with all of the receipts detailing the restoration, and has records from previous owners going back to 1974.  This is a truly exceptional example of one of Triumph's most iconic models.  Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. The car was taken completely apart, the frame, body panels and tub were all stripped down to metal.  Finished in Signal Red, this car definitely has the WOW factor.  The paint application was first rate, the complete absence of orange peel produces optical quality reflections off of the body panels.  The fit and finish of the car is terrific, no details were overlooked.  The car rides on a set of classic Dunlop SP4's, the wheels have been chemically dipped then double powdercoated with silver then clear, they are as new. Both bumpers have been rechromed, they have a few minor flaws but overall present very well.  Fender beading is all new, lights and lenses are new, the anodized grill is in excellent condition.  The windshield is new, including the gasket, apron and trim insert.  All of the car's weatherstripping is new, every piece. Lots of nice details throughout this car, this is one that can hold up to close scrutiny. The trunk carries the same level of attention as the rest of the car.  Included but not shown is the jacking equipment and a car cover. The soft top is a quality Robbins replacement, it's in fine condition and fits well. The interior was built back up with all new components; carpets, dash, upholstery - all new.  The seats are leather and for their size are very comfortable. Every electrical item in this car is working correctly.  Yes, Lucas, the Prince of Darkness, has been foiled in this car.  All gauges work correctly and show good, consistent readings.  Lights, signals, fan, wipers - all working.  All control knobs are new, the dash is a solid walnut replacement from Victoria British.  Both upper and lower dashpads are new and without flaw.  The car has a professionally installed JVC CD unit with remote, it has great sound. A glance under the dash shows the extent of the restoration, it's like looking at a new car.  As you can see, aftermarket lamps have been added for footwell illumination when the doors are opened.  In the 2nd photo below you'll notice that a 12V outlet has been installed for a phone charger or other accessories.  Behind that is a manual control switch for the lamps, to the left of that is a backup hood release in case the original one on the right should ever fail, a simple solution to a potential huge problem on TR4's. Also underdash are 2 small speakers, in addition the car has a set of 4x7 speakers that velcro down on the rear parcel shelf, I removed them for the photos but they are wired up and ready to go.  The 4th photo shows the new, retractrable shoulder belts that have been installed for convenience and safety. The motor has been completely rebuilt with new 86mm pistons and liners, bearings, camshaft, timing chain, etc.  The car fires right off and runs strongly.  It can be a bit cold blooded at first but runs beautifully once warmed up.  The motor has a smooth, balanced powerband with excellent throttle response, matched by an exhaust note that will bring a smile to your face.  The car shifts flawlessly and the overdrive makes freeway driving a breeze.  All hydraulic systems in the car are new, the entire suspension is new, including springs, front and rear.  This combined with its small size redefines the word nimble, the car handles excellent.  Carbs have been rebuilt, the fuel lines are new all the back to the tank.  A spin-on oil filter adapter has been added for quick and easy oil changes.  The cooling system has been gone through, the car runs right at 70C at all times. The undercarriage reflects the extent of this restoration.  Although the car hasn't been in the rain since restoration, you'll notice that wheel well deflectors have been added to protect from the car from road wear.
