Hello This is a 1949 Desoto Custom sedan for sale. It is technically a first series 1949 Desoto custom, which means it was made in 1949 but with a 1948 body style. The new '49 body styles came in mid-year. the car is 100% original while missing only two hubcaps. In 2007, we had the gas tank fixed and a tune-up to make in run. We believe it needs a fuel pump in order to continuously run. But it is a strong low mileage original engine. It doesn't have working brakes so it would need to be towed away. However the parking brake should still work. For the exception of the rocker panels and the bottom of the spare tire slot in the trunk, this car has very solid metal. Only surface rust. It is a fluid-drive DeSoto which means it's supposedly a semi-automatic transmission. I did general research on the internet and you go do most of the driving without shifting. This would be a strong candidate for a do it yourself restorer (Not so much for someone who would send it out for restoration). It has been garaged for the last 6 years. We bought this car from the original family 8 years ago and it has a clean title. I would prefer if it was a local buyer because I prefer not to deal with auto-shippers and the like. It also comes with the driverside rockerpanel trim missing from the photo. This car is sold "as-is". plain and simple. I reserve the right to end the auction early because it is for sale locally. Even the non-Desoto hubcap that came with the car was missing. But it appears nothing else was stolen. On Aug-13-11 at 09:18:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Update. We have to check into the battery situation as we are currently having trouble passing electricity through the car. We will check more into it on sunday morning. If we are unable to fix the problem, I'll either remove the listing or lower the reserve.
