Vehicle Detail

charvetmagic Store 1951 Packard 200 Deluxe Sedan - AMAZING ORIGINAL Packard for 1951 offered all-new styling by John Reinhart. It was a dramatic departure from the past, with low-slung (only 5 foot 2-1/2" high) body, which Packard brochures touted as giving "in-the-groove roadability with 'hats on' headroom in the front and back." It was truly the first modern Packard of the 1950's designed to compete with Detroit's "Big 3" while keeping the quality and distinction that was Packard. This partictular car was purchased new by a cattle rancher in western Oregon for his wife. This was her "Sunday go-to-meeting" and "grocery getter" car. The car was pampered by her. Seat covers were fitted to protect the original interior. It was always garaged and driven with care, accumulating just over 50,000 miles during the 25 years it was used by her from 1951-1976. When she stopped driving, the family kept the car at-the-ready in their heated garage - even licensing it every year until 2001. Following her death, the family sold the car to its current owner in 2003. A Packard collector, he was immediately impressed by the originality and quality of the car. Curious as to the condition of the upholstery, he removed the seat covers to find the near-pristine original interior. (The son of the original owner told him that their mother had always admonished them to never kick the seats or door panels - thus they still look like new, 60 years later.) As the car had been well-stored but not driven since 1976 all of the mechanical components were checked and serviced, including: • Brakes: New shoes, wheel cylinders and hoses. • Fuel pump rebuilt • Carburetor rebuilt • Cooling system cleaned and flushed The new owner drove it on many local Packard Club tours and for pleasure trips over the next 8 years, with the current mileage now showing 56,300 miles on the odometer. New radial tires were fitted less than 2,000 miles ago. Recently (less than 1,000 miles ago) the original Ultramatic Transmission was completely rebuilt by a Packard specialist. It also received a carburetr rebuild and complete tune-up within the past 200 miles. The original 288 c.i. straight eight engine runs strong with no smoke and plenty of power. Transmission shifts perfectly and is comfortable at modern freeway speeds. Car is optioned with working radio (with original power antenna!) All gauges work well. Heater does not work, but can be easily fixed. The original Valiant Green paint shines well and appears to have only been spot-painted by the previous owner on a couple of the fenders. Only a couple of minor chips (which is amazing after 60 years!) The body is straight and rust-free throughout. The trim and chrome are in very good original condition. Please see photos. It is truly a "time warp" car that still looks as it would have in the early 1950's. (Also, the original jack - in the original cardboard box - is still in the trunk.) This is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a quality Packard at a very reasonable price. It is the perfect car for local or long-distance touring. It's comfortable, reliable, fully-sorted and ready for the road. I would not hesitate to drive it across country tomorrow. And if you bring it to your local car show, the originality and condition of the car will be admired by all who see it. It's truly the best of both worlds: "show or go." A reasonable reserve has been placed on the car, WELL BELOW price guide figures for cars in similar condition. Bid to win!
