It's a 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe Real K Code high performance 289 with factory 4 speed. It runs and drives fantastic, and looks really good. This Fairlane is truly rare as there were 99 or less 65 Fairlanes with the K Code engine. As the Sports Coupe model, it came from the factory with bucket seats, console, and the floor mounted shifter. It has its original engine and transmission. All the K code correct items are there in the car. The engine has been kept tuned and properly adjusted. Everything works in the car. From the original radio (plays great) with the rare rear speaker and factory reverb unit, to the lights and gauges. All glass is good. All windows roll up and down easy. The clutch shifts easily. The heater works fine, etc. A photo of the data plate is included in the picture section. This Fairlane was sold new in Gettysburg, Pa. in 1965. It then went to Richmond, Va., and from there to my North Carolina home. It's been garage kept for many years, but when we first acquired it in the 80s we did some rust repair. One floor pan was replaced and both rear quarters were redone.....all with metal and done properly. Two changes have been made to the car concerning the data plate. It came from the factory with a black body and a white top. My first Fairlane was Vintage burgandy with a white top, so when the car was repainted in 2001, I changed the body color to vintage burgandy. Second, this car came from the factory with a 4:11 rear end. It was great for drag racing in 65, but just won't work well for any highway driving today, so in 2001 the rear gears were changed to a 2:80 ratio. It has its correct Ford 9 inch rear end, and one could easily change the gearing back to 4:11. Nothing has ever been changed regarding the k code engine and the transmission. The floors and undercarriage are not detailed for show because the car has been kept as a dependable driver. However, the floors, rockers and undercarriage are solid and strong. The mileage listed in the auction may not be accurate because although I know the history of the car's whereabouts, I can't document mileage. However, with continued proper maintenance, this little Fairlane has lots of miles and many years left to give. There are lots of K code Mustang cars, and there were about 15,000 Fairlane 500 Sport Coupes sold in the 1965 model year. This is one of less than a hundred K code Fairlanes. With its 4 speed, 9 inch rear, etc. it truly is a rare car. It shows well, drives well, and rides fine. It should be a good long term investment that you can enjoy all the time. This car has been driven from North Myrtle Beach to Los Angeles with no problem, and I feel confident it will go whereever you want to take it! Feel free to come inspect the car.
