Vehicle Detail
This old Beetle convertible has been tucked away in a corner of a steel garage, with a dry concrete floor. 24 years have gone by........ This vintage bug awaits someone with the will, desire, ambition and funds to bring her back, fix her up or embark on a full restoration. She started life a light blue beauty, and remains 98% complete. This car ran when parked but needs a full going through and would do best with someone handy. True mileage unknown. I have had this car since my graduation from high school. Life has unfolded, I am in my mid 40s now...its time to be realistic. The top is not bad, though the back window has been removed. I believe all the glass is good. The interior hints at its former glory but needs attention too. She has rust, and needs a good deal of body work, prep and paint. A few of the tires are flat, and I can get her outside for pick up but bring an air pump with you or a few mounted spares. Some of the boxed parts pictured go with this auction to This car will be sold with a bill of sale. The key is missing, but may be locked in the trunk and Im pretty sure it is, again no guarantees. Cant figure out a way to get in there yet. She has spent the last few decades watching the lawn furniture and bicycles pass by each season. My ambition and the funds necessary never came to be. This project is a labor of love, maybe yours... I am happy to answer questions, but am telling you from the start, she needs more than an afternoon to put her back on the road. I am starting this auction at $3995.00 with NO RESERVE. She is a great little car in need of a full restoration, and is sold as-is. Good luck and happy bidding. Please do not bid if you have not comfortably identified this old classic as something you want or need. Do not bid if you are not realistic in your expectations and are not bidding in earnest. I would enjoy seeing this car go to someone excited to have her. Lastly, please dont bid unless you have the follow through and ABILITY to buy this item, should you have the winning bid. A $1000 deposit is due within 72 hours of auction close. This vehicle can be picked up when paid for in full (certified funds or cash) or when your cashiers check fully CLEARS. NO Paypal sales on this item. Note: A few different ebayers have messaged me with the belief this car is actually a 1960 or 1961. I always thought it was a 1959, but its been so long, I suppose its possible and will defer to those who have specific knowledge on tell tale signs (door panels, dash design, styling differences). I am not out to misrepresent this antique beach baby. The bill of sale will be drafted from VIN#, the vehicle pictured is the one you get! Thanks for reading, and again, good luck. Floors: I took some photos and can tell you that the passenger side had some sheetmetal repair, not a great job (pop rivet special), but served someone in the past. The drivers side seems original and retains its original form and composure at least from appearance, however, the bottom of the "rails" or underside of heater tubes are rusty. There is surface rust here and there and then places that look more severe. I would say its a mixed bag and will surely require attention. The running board on the drivers side is missing, but the passenger side is there. In regard to rust repair in general, once any decayed material has been cut away there will be much less structure there than appears, but its only then that you truly know what you have to work with. The seats have not crashed through the floors, and supported my body weight. I also stood on the floor behind the drivers seat and it held my weight. My best advice would be to watch the VW magazines for new pans, as you may know these cars come apart in a basic way. Make friends with a bodyman/welder who can redo them. This car is nearly complete, I would rather have you pleasantly surprised than disappointed. Rust is rust, and its sneaky. The repair covers a good part of the passenger side, the drivers side looks original. See photos. There is a Florida sticker from 1978 on the windshield. As I recall the prior owner had it on the road here in CT. The odometer reads 28,883, who knows but its not a stretch to assume its 128,000. The VIN# that everyone has been asking for is: #3097312 .I have had two people tell me this is a 1960 VW number. I have included a photo of the engine, but the car is resting so close to the garage wall, it will not open fully. The car is somewhat "penned in" by another vehicle, an organ, snowmobiles etc., but I took photos in detail where possible. The engine should be complete or very near. I drove this car home from Enfield CT in the mid 1980s. Other details: Included in this sale are 3 extra rims, the three missing hubcaps and a total of 5 slotted trim rings. The turn signal lever is broken on this car, but there is a spare in the parts box along with: an outside mirror, extra ash tray, piece of trim and two headlight lenses. There is a "boot" for the top, but its pretty ragged and crinkly, but may be good for the pattern. Wanted to mention the headliner will need replacement and hangs down in spots. The drivers door only opens from the inside and she appears to have a missing window crank on the passenger side. There IS a back bumper and its included in the sale. There is NOT a back window for the convertible top. I still cant get the hood open, and do not know what else might be in there, (the key hopefully). If it relates to the car its included. I want to try to open it from the stand point of a time capsule and to see if anything from my high school days is in there. Oh, and there is a total of three flat tires, but a fairly straight level spot to flatbed it from. For shipping queries, figure it from Ellington CT zip code 06029. Thanks for looking and good luck.
