Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car in flawless condition from a prominent doctor in Winnetka, IL. The car has been in Winnetka, IL, garage kept and winter stored for its entire life as far as I know. I came into ownership of the car 7 years ago when the doctor was 86 years old and didn't want "a sports car" anymore. The miles are original miles (~18,900). I drive the car approximately 10 times over the course of the warmer months to ensure it remains in perfect working order, and it is stored at the first threat of inclimate weather. Outside of tune-ups, oil changes (which occur twice a year), the only major thing I have had to do to the car is replace the alternator and the distributor cap and wires and the slave cylinder related to the clutch. This car is as clean as you will get for a '77. I don't know what else to say. The car starts right up with 3 pumps of the gas and a turn of the key. The A/C does not work. However, I did replace the compressor, but I have not been able to get it tuned and running properly, and since I typically don't drive the car in very hot weather, it hasn't bothered me. The compressor is NEW, it just needs tuning and perhaps freon. This car does not have all the hydraulics that older models have (the ones built by Citroen) and therefore none of the problems with such a system. It shares the exact same dashboard, front-end, chassis and drive-train as the Bora. It's very easy to maintain and I have used the same mechanic for 7 years to ensure it remains that way. With a small investment, I think this car can be brought to Concourse shape. I, personally think it is better suited as a driver. It needs and wants to be driven. It handles better than any Porsche Boxer on the road due to its wide wheelbase. Further investment into the engine and the car would become much quicker than it already is if you want to increase it's performance. Again, it is ALL ORIGINAL (except for the new parts mentioned above), including paint which has only a few of the expected dings a car 34 years old would have. Let me state that again: The car is ALL ORIGINAL. It is not restored in anyway. Minor things WILL occur from time to time. Please know what you are buying before you bid. This is the cleanest, ALL ORIGINAL, Merak you will find. It is ready to be driven. I'll also consider paying shipping and/or delivery to anywhere reasonable if necessary. This is the cleanest, all original, Merak I have seen in 7 years. And I've seen plenty. The SS is the rarest, most in demand and powerful of all the Meraks. There is a market for this car in Europe and it could be flipped for profit by someone with the right connections. Now - here is a bit more information about the Auction. Most likely, I will not answer e-mails from anyone outside the United States. Too many scam artists on ebay from foreign lands. The conditions of the Auction are that you will send $500 via pay pal if you are winner within 24 hours of auction end. This is non-refundable, but will be credited toward the purchase price of the car. I will drive the car too you if you are within a reasonable distance. I will drive the car to any local shipping origination if you make those arraingments. I will be as accomodating as I can, within reason. Please don't waste my time, and I will not waste yours. This car IS AS ADVERTISED.
