Please Note: Before we get started, I would like to point out that this Thunderbird is equipped with the very rare manual transmission with the factory overdrive which adds tremendous value to this vehicle. Only around 600 examples were ever produced, compared to the thousands of automatics built. This 3-speed transmission + 4th gear overdrive also makes this roadster a true sports car and out-performs the 2-speed automatic by far. The RPM's drop nice and low at highway speed, giving this bird a quiet ride. The savings on fuel is a nice bonus as well. This 3-speed unit is a manual shift but also acts as an automatic when you select the overdrive. When selected, the transmission shifts into 4th like an automatic and also has a passing gear option when the pedal is pressed to the floor. It truly is a blast to drive with tons of power! Just over $100k was invested over the 18 month restoration process and the detail is truly stunning! Currently, even in this bad economy, current NADA price is still listed at over $82,000.00. Additional Vehicle Data from Seller: This particular 1957 Thunderbird has the original 312 ci V-8 motor with a 3-speed overdrive transmission. Ford only built just over 600 examples with this remarkable option which adds significant value to this vehicle. It's quite a performer and fun to drive! Most baby birds were equipped with a boring 2-speed automatic which can't compare to the performance that this baby delivers! The roar of the dual exhaust complements this sporty feature. Vehicle has been in climate controlled garage. Car has a new power steering unit and power brakes along with both tops! The soft top is new with a new metal frame. The hard top is in excellent showroom condition and seals nicely unlike many of the early bird hard tops. The restoration was a complete 100% body off the frame rotisserie operation that was completed over an 18 month period by a qualified professional shop. The original engine was balanced with a new cam, crank, pistons, rings, valves, oil pump, correct carburetor and much more. This engine also has the original Dress-Up Kit and the valve covers shine like crazy! This engine runs as smooth as the day it was built. There are new gears in the transmission and rear end. It's all fluid and smooth! All new front suspension, new brakes, new drums and new gas tank. The one thing on this car that is NOT STOCK is the alternator in place of the generator. Although the purist will not like the alternator, the driving enthusiast will appreciate the benefits. If buyer prefers, he or she may switch back but I would not recommend doing so. This car is loaded with so many NOS (New Old Stock) parts that it's in a class of its own. The detail under the hood is amazing! The starter solenoid is the correct brown color (Unlike the reproductions) and the battery is perfect to the era with the correct screw caps. Car also has the correct coil and the coil wire is proper brown with the correct knot tied into it. The fuel filter, heater accordian tube and the resistor are all NOS. The windshield washer bag is correct and draws many comments from the folks out there. It all looks just like the day it was built. The windshield wipers are mint and work flawlessly as they run on the vacuum from the fuel pump which is pretty nifty to see! The body and paint work was very comprehensive as no expense was spared. This paint shines without wax and almost looks like french vanilla ice cream with the correct Colonial White color from Ford's original '57 Thunderbird paint options. The wheels shine beautifully and the wheel covers are brand new NOS with not one blemish, scuff or mark. Wheel covers are NOT reproductions and they're the real deal! They complement the gorgeous whitewall tires nicely. The rubber mouldings between the fender skirts and body are also new and the stainless trim on them is flawless. Car also has new windshield and fantastic glass throughout. The vent wing glass is also new and perfect! Btw, there are no chips on the edges of the doors, trunk and hood. The trunk was completely restored with the correct pattern inside. The full-size tire and jack are mint showroom condition. All the chrome was re-plated and polished to perfection! One look at the stainless and chrome sets this bird apart from most restorations. The trim is gorgeous and just as nice as the day it rolled off of the assembly line. The weatherstripping was all taken off with new old stock replacement. Interior: The interior is like a diamond and in museum condition. Most of the trim pieces were replaced with NOS (NOS parts are almost impossible to find nowadays) and there is absolutely no pitting, corrosion or scratches on any of the dash trim / bezels etc. The ignition switch was also replaced. We were also very lucky to find an NOS speedometer and the face plate has never seen the light of day! The numbers are crisp and the mileage numbers are also in mint condition with no yellowing and again, museum quality unsurpassed! The mileage on the new speedometer is just over 300 and the old one had just over 1,100 miles on it which makes the mileage just over 1,400 miles since the restoration. The other gauges and bezels are in gorgeous condition and has correct matching clock. The temp gauge is also NOS and works beautifully with the NOS temp sending unit. The seats are new and with the embossed bird logo in the center and the door panels and trim are also new. The headliner is also brand new with the tiny holes throughout. This interior is an excellent complement to the beauty this bird radiates externally. This bird even has the correct NOS door lock buttons and NOS trim garnish strip on the tops of the doors. The steering wheel is gorgeous with the correct "Master Guide Power Steering" logo on the chrome horn rim. All the pedal pads were replaced and rubber is new. Honestly, this fine vehicle should be seen in person to be fully appreciated as the pictures simply don't do it justice. One look at this vehicle from any aspect will undoubtedly make for one very happy owner! Notes of interest: I have a bunch of vintage literature that also goes with the car.
