Vehicle Detail

The story, I searched for two years for a GT6 at this level and could not find one. I began to think about buying one and having it restored to the condition I wanted. Now I found this was as equally difficult, after finding only three over a long period of time that even seemed worth viewing and taking distant trips to see cars that were so far gone and had been so molested, I actually began to get very discouraged and ready to just give up. Then one day on E bay a car appeared it claimed 19,000 original miles, no rust, original paint, original everything not to mention completely functional. This car was listed by someone who bought and sold British cars. Still very skeptical, the auction was coming to the end, I wasn’t going to even bid but my wife grabbed the computer and hit the buttons, then said “Now it’s yours!” The day came when I went to pick it up and it was incredible, how original and in rock solid condition. NO rust anywhere, just forty years of dings, pings and scratches totally beautiful, I got it home and took it into a British auto repair to see what it needed, they all were amazed at its condition. After examining the car it was found in need of a few repairs, engine hose set, brake master cylinder, re build front calipers, stainless brake hoses front and rear, clutch master cylinder, 1 slave cylinder, shift lever kit plugs, wires, ignition coil, float needle seats, re build alternator, new clutch, front and rear main seal and even more ,Cha Ching $$$$! Now it runs and drives like a gem. Of course, I couldn’t stop there it just didn’t shine the way I wanted it to. So I took it to two different body shops for quotes on paint neither claimed I needed to strip it, so I didn’t, I had it painted in Damson which is a deep maroon original color for 1971 GT6, this cars original color before I changed it was Wedgewood Blue. The paint came out beautiful, rims sand blasted and repainted, all new rubber, I had the engine removed and detailed including the engine compartment painted properly. Then it was time for the interior, originally in black I ordered all new everything in vinyl now tan, wool carpet, head liner had that installed came out beautiful even had the shifter boot sewn in to match. I installed Secureon seat belts that work, also removed walnut dash, all gauges had tack and speedo re built, new bezels, O rings, cleaned all glass and installed a custom elm burl wood dash panel which was a much bigger job than I anticipated, but absolutely gorgeous when I finished and I also installed a Motolita leather steering wheel. Jams a must, so I installed a new Pioneer stereo, made custom boxes for rear and custom panel for front area speakers had them upholstered in vinyl to match very close. Then it was time for wire rims and new Bridgestone tires which I purchased rims a little wider then original which was 4 ½. I bought 5 ½ and it gives the car an incredible stance and of course a spare to match complete with knock off hammer and wood torque wrench. Then installed a new exhaust stainless Y pipe dual exhaust sounds and looks fantastic, and new tripod head lamps. The chrome is in good condition a few pits, etc…, new door handles it was cheaper to replace then re plate. I am sure there many things I have left out and please know I am not claiming this is a concourse car, it is not, but it is a stunning ride to show and drive. It does have a few stone chips from driving and the speedo has 22,600 miles on it and I can’t say for sure that is original, go figure. It does have an oil drip which I had checked out and the mechanic said to leave it alone. This car does not have overdrive, it was on my to do list but didn’t happen, 99% of all work has been done by other professionals I am not a car restoration person. Finally, I am happy to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge and you are welcome to come and view the car which is kept at my shop in heated storage all winter. If you are looking for a car that you can turn the key and have instant gratification then this is it. I have lots of money invested, so bid with confidence.
