Vehicle Detail
BACKGROUND - This car was purchased by my godfather four years ago with the intention of restoring the vehicle. It was literally a fresh barn find at that time. My godfather was diagnosed with cancer shortly after the purchase and passed away. I was asked to purchase the car from the estate and drove it home from the barn my godfather had been keeping it in as well. It has been a year now and sadly I realize that I have little time myself to restore the car so I must part with it. The following is a candid description of the car. If you wish to come view the car before bidding please let me know and we can make arrangements. EXTERIOR - This car's exterior shows signs of wear for being a 36 year old. Minor dents and dings on the hood, car quarter panels and doors. There is minor surface rust as seen in pictures near the rear bottom of the driver's side door. The convertible top I believe was replaced by my godfather when he purchased the car. On a scale rating of 1 to 6. 1 being outstanding and 6 terrible. The exterior rates a 3 minus. The car looks ok from 10 feet away but up close it becomes apparent that it needs some work. INTERIOR - This car's interior shows signs of wear and general neglect. Its dirty and aged. The seat headrest, shift boot, and dash have splits from drying out / wear, the floor matting is worn and so on. The car is aged and shows it. Under the spare tire there are small holes (as pictured); rust any place else seems very limited. On a scale rating of 1 to 6. 1 being outstanding and 6 being terrible. The interior rates a 4 minus. The interior looks OK from a distance but up close it shows significant wear. MECHANICAL – This car's 2000 Veloce 1,962 cc 133 PS (98 kW; 131 hp) motor does start. However, when it runs it sometimes stalls out. When I drove it home a year ago the motor stumbled a little bit. Now the motor stumbles significantly and what seems to be oil spits out from the tail pipe. There does not seem to be smoke from the tail pipe just what seems to be oil. I'm not sure if its related but the car does have a choke cable which does not seem to be connected to anything in the engine compartment. Given the car has a fuel injection system I am not sure why the car has a choke in the first place. The fuel gauge has not worked accurately since my godfather purchased the car. For this reason the gas tank has always been kept full. On a scale rating of 1 to 6. 1 being outstanding and 6 being terrible. The mechanical on this car rates a 5 minus as the car cannot be driven long distance. SAFETY - The car has seat belts which are not in very good shape but they are present. The car is an Italian sports car made for the US; overall it was not made for safety. OVERALL – This car is in restorable condition. It can be driven to move it around a parking lot but that is about as far as I would go with it. If you have read this far, you surely know that only 5107 of these cars were made in 1974 so the parts are in demand and at this auction's starting price this car is a bargain.
