Modified 1996 Jeep Cherokee I bought the Jeep in April, 2010 with 15XXXX miles on it. I was unemployed and had just separated from my wife and had no vehicle. I knew I wanted a Cherokee, and after shopping for only a few days I found this one. When I saw the color I had to have it. I later found out that according to Jeep this is the only first generation XJ Cherokee that exists in this color. Without an income, however, the Jeep sat. I drove it occasionally, but never more than just around town to pick up groceries, etc. Around October of 2010 things turned around. My wife and I reconciled our differences, and within just a few days I found work. This gave me a chance to finally do some work on the Jeep. I had always pictured something with very little lift, but still on decent sized tires, that could be used as an overland vehicle, and that's the direction I went while building it. Working with the off road travel experts at Adventure Vehicle Outfitters, everything on the Jeep is designed, built, and/or installed for a specific use, there is nothing on the vehicle that's bling. The modifications include: Custom, one-off rear tire carrier/bumper designed by me, built by Adventure Vehicle Outfitters Reverse and dust lights integrated into the rear bumper Integrated Class III hitch in bumper Hi lift Extreme on the rear bumper 4 gallon gas pack on rear bumper CB antenna on rear bumper 3 8” 130w KC lights on the front bumper Wiring for roof rack reverse lights in drivers side quarter panel (removed the rack but left wiring for the future. 5x Goodyear Duratrac 33x12.5x15 tires (they have about 5000 miles on them and show almost no wear) 5x Cragar wagon wheels Cut and folded rear quarters (rear bumper extends under quarter for support when coming down on a rock) Cut front fenders (to clear the 33's with such a small lift) Rough Country 3” Stage II lift Ultragauge OBDII reader (gives gauge readouts and shows trouble codes) Cobra CB Alarm (it was installed when I bought the Jeep, I have no key fob or info on it.) Auxiliary fuse block installed under dash on driver's side H4 headlight conversion Stonehenge Series Boulder Basher on front differential Custom switch panel below ash tray (room for 7 switches, only 3 used so far) Pioneer iPod ready head unitCustom Magnaflow exhaust I also just recently did a full round of maintenance including the following: New fan clutch Transmission service Transfer case service Oil Change New u-joints (both front and rear driveshafts) Differential service (front and back) New Spark plugs and wires New distributor cap and rotor In all, the work done within the last 5000 miles totals about $6000. The Jeep now has 163XXX miles, about 80% of the miles I have put on it have been offroad, ranging from very difficult to very easy trails. This Jeep has taken me places that I never thought it could, and farther than many of my friend's much more modified rigs. It is not just a random assortment of parts. I did a lot of research, and made sure the entire thing worked as a system. I had many more plans for the Jeep, however times are very tough, and with a family to support it's time to make some sacrifices. First thing to go is the toys, the Jeep being the biggest of the toys.
