Vehicle Detail
1971 VoLkSwAgEn VW CoNvErtIbLe BeEtLe BuG CaNvAs ToP! Here it is folks. We have the 1st year ever of the 1971 Super Beetle Convertible. From that year on all convertibles would be of the Super Beetle variety. What’s the difference between a Beetle and the Super Beetle you might ask? Well quit a few……It was a first major change of the original Beetle to accommodate some wants/needs of your ever day drivers. The principal reasons for the development of the Super Beetle were to increase the utility of the vehicle by providing the customer with a larger luggage compartment and greater comfort. These factors were just as important some 30 years ago as they are today. By providing more luggage space, better handling, greater overall utility and comfort, the Super Beetle gave Volkswagen customers more choice in the model range of the period and greater choice in the market segment. The decision to produce the Super Beetle was going to be a costly one. Never before had Volkswagen spent so much time or money on the Beetle. The new suspension design required a new chassis and every panel in the front end had to be redesigned as well. This meant new rounder fenders, a larger wider hood, redesigned front valance, a new spare tire well, changes to other areas of the body and new inner fenders to accommodate the mounting of the new struts. This would be the most costly and extensive revision of the Beetle since it was first launched. It was said that if Heinz Nordhoff was around, the new Super Beetle might have never been built. For the first time in the history of the Beetle the spare tire was stored horizontally in a recessed wheel well under the cargo area in the front trunk floor. The jack was moved to under the rear seat and the air pressure powered windshield washer bottle was relocated to the right inner fender. These changes resulted in 9 cubic feet of storage in the trunk, an increase of 86%. When this new space was added to the storage area behind the rear seat, the Beetle finally had the carrying capacity that people wanted. Exterior: This Volkswagen Convertible Beetle was painted red just last year and shows great under our California Sun. It is bright red and gets you the thumbs up as you cruise up and down the coast. The top is not your ordinary cheap vinyl ones. It is made of Canvas which is more durable and holds the car more value. More bang for the Buck! The rims are painted white to bring more of a vintage look. There are no visible rust and the paint looks great for being a everyday driver. Interior: The interior is solid black with no visible rips. The headliner do show some wear and dips down just a little bit. Door panels have the side envelopes to hold small valuable and are clean and firm. The running, driving, signal and brake lights works great. The running, driving, signal and brake lights works great. CLICK HERE TO SEE VIDEO Engine: The engine runs strong. You should warm it up, just like all older air cooled VWs and enjoy the 4 cylinder ride without worrying about those expensive gas prices. CLICK HERE TO SEE VIDEO There are minor drips of oil here and there. We had it checked out and it is also pretty common with no major issues. We had it turned up so it’s ready to drive all summer long. Terms and Condition: Please be aware the bug is 40 plus years old. There is no warranty and this Car is Sold As Is.
