Vehicle Detail

bluevista Store 1971 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, two seat/6 passenger model, runs and rides like new, loaded and everything works. One year since three year restoration was finished, painted and new woodgrain installed last spring and has been driven a few hundred miles since. Painted in the original Nordic Blue color with a medium blue vinyl interior.Original rebuilt numbers matching 350 cubic inch 2 barrel engine. Three speed Turbo 400 transmission, standard 3.08 non-posi differential.Power Brakes - front disc/rear drum Power SteeringCruise ControlAir Conditioning Tinted WindowsCarpeted Load Floor and TailgateAM-FM StereoTwo Way Tailgate (standard)Added;Power WindowsPower Door LocksRoof RackTilt WheelFour-Way Power Bench Seat8-Track Tape Player Dash Control Lighting Under Dash Courtesy LightsMap Light MirrorRemote Driver's Door MirrorDeluxe Seat BeltsDual ExhaustRear Air Deflector The car was sold new at Burch Oldsmobile in Alhambra, California and purchased from the original owner in 1991. It was then transported to the upper midwest for a resto project that never happened . It was stored in a heated garage and sat untouched for 15 years before I purchased it in 2006. I'm the second owner on paper because the previous owner never transferred the title. There wasn't any rust on the car except for some very light surface rust where the paint was sunburned and worn off in areas and some of the common pinholes in the rear storage compartment floor from the vinyl mat which were easily repaired, none of the very common roof and rear side window channel rust most all Vistas Cruisers get.The body was stripped to bare metal, epoxy primed and bodywork done, mostly little dings and a few scrapes, dented right front fender replaced with an AZ rust free unit along with the hood, complete professional Spies-Hecker basecoat-clearcoat paint job matched to the original code 24 Nordic Blue Poly metallic, disassembled for paint so everything is covered.. Correct cast type 3M High Performance film vinyl woodgrain film, done by a pro and looks real good, all the grain lines up very well. The car is as clean on the bottom as it is on top, detailed underbody and engine compartment with correct original type clamps and fasteners. The bumpers are replated, the front is very good with no damage. The rear bumper was off another Vista and wasn't as nice as the seller I got it from said it was, it has a bubble around one bumper bolt on the upper left and the common scratches from the lower tailgate sweep rubbing dirt on top when the gate is open and closed when the bumper is set too high, shadows of a scrape under the chrome on the left side, the problems can hardly be seen from a few feet away but there. I'll also include the original solid rust-free rear bumper with a few minor bends and dings, good candidate for straightening and plating if that bumper won't do. The stainless trim was straightened and dings taken out where needed and then buffed and polished, all very nice. The remote mirror was from another car and has a few pits on the stalk, none of the original chrome is pitted on the car otherwise. The chrome on the roof rack corner uprights is a little dull and faded in areas. The anodized bright trim on the driver's door frame has some of the common scratches from going in and out over the years, also hard to see from a few feet away. They unfortunately don't sell original type seat covers for these cars so the seat covers were duplicated with NOS vinyl that came with the car and reproduction vinyl made to order from SMS, work was done at a top-notch local trim shop, they also did the cargo area side covers and the edging on the new cargo floor carpeting, cost more than I paid for the the car but well worth it.. The dashboard and dash area is all original and real nice , dash pad is very good with no damage. The glass is all original and is in very good condition with a few very minor scratches. The dark tinted Vista glass is all very good, tailgate glass has the common light vertical scratches on the inner right side from when the fabric covering wears off the anti-rattle strip inside the gate and the glass rubs the exposed metal when it goes up and down. New front and rear headliners, new front sun visors and recovered forward Vista window sun visors .The door panels are original with the lower carpeting replaced, overall in very good condition with no damage, some slight discoloration./dark spots from the sun on the very tops but hardly noticeable unless you look close, they could be painted with SEM and look like new but I didn't think it was noticeable enough enough to warrant it myself. The plastic inside door handle backing plates have some chrome wear. New tailgate and door seals, door sweeps and glass run channels are original with very light wear. The radio was professionally serviced and works fine, 8 track player was cleaned and belt replaced, correct original type reproduction front and rear speakers installed. Mechanical type accessory under dash gauges added, water-volts-oil pressure, otherwise the interior is all stock. The engine was professionally rebuilt and has just a little over 2000 miles on it, runs great. The engine compartment and engine are all stock except for a Pertronix points eliminator ignition system under the distributor cap and the battery is a correct but non-original Remy brand.Transmission shifts fine and is a 1973 model, fit and functions the same as the original, looks rebuilt but can't swear to it. Wiring is all very good and not messed with, factory type T-3 headlights Brakes are new except for the original front rotors that were like new so they were lightly turned and used again, Inline Tube replacement combination valve .Suspension was rebuilt with all new front and rear control arm bushings, ball joints, springs, shocks, new AGR Resto Cruiser variable ratio steering box for quicker steering and more road feel than the factory type, looks the same. Cooper Trendsetter whitewall P225-75R-14 Tires with 2000 miles on them, five with the spare. The frame is smooth as new along with the underbody and suspension parts. The car is very nice, not a perfect frame-off professionally restored nut and bolt resto concours type show car but very nice. The Protect-O-Plate is included along with copies of the original CA pink slip title and registration. I contacted the original owner, a retired Los Angeles police officer, and he was sure the car only has 53000 miles, said he only used it to tow his boat on family vacations and outings and it wasn't used much otherwise but who knows. It's possible but I have no proof it could be the actual mileage other than how good of shape the car was in when I got it, the problems were more from neglect and bad maintenance than mileage where it did need work.I was planning on keeping the car forever, my wife and I love the car but with the economy and a daughter in college something has to go so we discussed it and decided to keep the kid.
