Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 72 Cutlass S that I've had for the past 10 years. This is a beautiful American classic muscle car. From what I've seen on other sites there were only like 4100 of these S models built. I want to try to provide a full description of the vehicle to make sure there are no questions or problems at the time of purchase. This was a project car for me for the first 3 years I owned it. It has had some body work around the fender wells and lower quarter panels and was painted about 3 years ago. The bodywork and paint job were done pretty well but not perfect. You can see from the pictures it looks really nice and I've driven it in local car parades and events and always get great comments. A lot of chrome really sets this car apart from other Cutlass models. It is what they consider a 20 footer, which basically means from 20 foot looks perfect, if you're up close then you can see a few minor flaws in the body and paint. The engine was pretty much built new from the ground up. I would suspect it has about 2,000 to 3,000 miles on the rebuild. I only drive it for special events and sits in a garage the rest of the time. I had the engine rebuilt by a tech at a local Ford (yes Ford) dealership about 7 years ago. He basically did it on his own time at the shop and no warranties pass back to the shop. He started with an Olds 350 interceptor block, headers, Mallory HyFire ignition system, polished the crank, and replaced the heads with some higher performance heads (not really sure brand or numbers). He bore the cylinders .30 over and put these new items into the engine (valves, pistons, rings, and rods, comp cam, HVLP oil pump, cam bearings, fuel pump, Edelbrock performer intake. Also new was front springs, transmission cooling unit, universal joints and I put on a new Edelbrock carb from Summit Racing about 2 years ago - I believe that mostly covers the new items . It has a Turbo 350 automatic transmission that was rebuilt at the time with a shift kit installed. It bangs through the gears and gets some chirp out of the tires - really nice. I also replaced the rear end with a .373 gear POSI traction. The only thing I didn't do at that time was replace the speedometer gear into the transmission so basically with the different gear ratio from stock the speedometer is about 10-15MPH off. This is a very cheap item and fairly simple to install, just never ordered it online. It has a very nice black interior. No tears, carpet decent, nice headliner, dash I believe has one vent that the plastic vent is missing. It has a AM/FM/Cassette (not stock) radio installed. It never worked since I originally bought the car and never had it replaced. I believe it powers on but no sound.. might be a speaker connection or something. The glove box opens but the knob into the glove box is loose and needs to be wiggled to open. Glass is good, no cracks. Chrome is not show quality shinny, but pretty nice (see pictures). Trunk is in pretty good condition. It was coated after the body work was completed on the bottom of the rear quarters. The tires have really nice tread and are in very good condition. It has dual exhaust from the headers and the exhaust system was replaced new about 3 years ago along with Flowmaster mufflers and hasn't seen the road much and looks almost new. I also added chrome tips on the end of the exhaust (see pictures). Again I don't expect this car to will win awards in a car show (as it sets) because of some of the minor flaws in paint and body work but it's a really nice car and a real head turner. I believe I pretty much provided a clear picture of what I have. I'm selling the car because I want to buy a pontoon boat (also selling the boat behind the car in the picture if you know anyone interested) and this just sits in my garage about 360 days out of the year. If you have any questions you can call me at 330-692-3678. I do reserve the right to end the Auction early to sell to a local buyer. We are having a car show this weekend and I will be placing it there with a FOR SALE sign. One other note.. the odometer works and is reading 111,650.. i just looked at the title and it states 120,000 that I believe was a guess. I've driven the car probably 2,00-3,00 miles since purchase so I know it didn't roll over twice. Not to mention the engine really only has the 2,000 to 3,000 miles on it since rebuild. On Jun-25-11 at 20:57:33 PDT, seller added the following information: I was kindly emailed by a person today to let me know that this is not considered a hardtop and it's is the Sports Coupe model. I verified the VIN online and it did show based on the VIN that it's the Sports Couple. From the different Olds forums I checked it appears the 72 Cutlass S Sports Coupe is more rare than the Holiday Coupe and I guess the hard top. I've never researched it before and I hope someone ends up liking it more because of that. I hope all the data I found on the forums was correct and you might want to check yourself as well. I listed the VIN number in the ad. Had it out today for a local car show "Super Nationals" in Salem, Ohio and had several really nice comments.
