Vehicle Detail
MGA 1962 1/2, 1600 Mark II A great vintage unrestored original California car, stored by the original owner for the last 16 years !! This is the last year that the MGA was manufactured. And this is one of the 8,718 MGA models made. It has the 1622cc series "H" high compression engine, the horizontal rear lights/lamps and the 1600 Mark II grill with recessed slats. It has never been exposed to New England winter weather with snow and salted roads, it was always in a garage. This completely unrestored solid car would make a great restoration project for the vintage car enthusiast. It does have a new top, but is not installed as shown. There is no tonneau cover and a small dent on the lower left rear side as shown. Very little rust, please see the pictures and we can send more specific pictures on request. We have not started the engine, but it does turn free. The right rear wheel does not turn free (brake frozen?) Sprayed with WD-40, it is rocking back and forth, should be free soon. The original owner loved this car but is moving to Hawaii and says it has never been in an accident or had any body repairs, but it did have an inferior paint job in the mid-80's, and added slip covers over the original seats. Essentially this car is a repaint, re-chrome and new upholstery type of restoration. No welding or panel replacement necessary. Restorations don't come nicer than that. The surface rust spots and the rear left guard repair is minor. The panel should be beaten out, not replaced as the replacement dogleg panels available are significantly off, so bad you have to cut and weld a long triangle of sheet metal. Re-chrome because the original bumpers are far thicker than the replacement ones and the grills are too square in the corners, not rounded enough, plus not made of thick brass like the originals. I suppose we should be grateful that we can get these parts, but I wish Moss would tighten up on quality control. Please notice the near perfect original sills and rocker panels, the doors have tight even door gaps, and the sill to guard joins have the correct curvature. If the door fit is good on an MGA then the rest of the car is almost always good. Sills are where the rust starts first and with exception of the boot and bonnet, are key to the fit of all the panels. Please, please make sure you know your shipping costs before you bid, that is the main reason why we are re-listing this car! (Australia is too far and too expensive as Peter found out :-) Shipping is not available unless provided and payed for by the buyer. This car is sold as is, where is. Please email with any questions and thank you for looking and, good luck bidding
