Vehicle Detail

1951 MERCURY Up for sale is a 1951 Mercury 2 door Sedan. I am listing this vehicle for a friend who doesn't use Ebay. This Mercury was bought completely stock in 2005 and spent the next three years at a Rod & Custom shop in NC. Then it was picked up and has been in the current owners garage since. After looking at receipts and labor that's gone into this car there is right at $26,000.00 into this restoration so far. Now this Mercury sits as a rolling chassis ready for completion. I do want to make sure it is known that this vehicle is a restoration project and you are not going to buy this car and be cruising the next day. This car still needs to be finished. There is no engine or tranny. There is a clear title with this car and the mileage says 99999, N (Not Actual) on title. With that said I am going to list everything that's been done and bought for this car going by the receipts and info given to me by the owner. First, with the car completely stripped, the frame was sandblasted and etching primed, the whole front end was then replaced with a Fatman front clip. It was then fitted with all new mounts for a 351 engine with automatic overdrive transmission. Then the suspension was all converted to air ride so at ride height the car can then be lowered 4 inches. The parts I see on receipts for this conversion are: Compressor & control system, rear air kit w/ tri bar, front shock wave (pr), lower control arm for front(pr), front disk brake kit (with new brake pedal, bracket, booster, and master cylinder assembly), upper A arms, spindle (pr), and a power rack. The rear end was replaced with a 9" rear with 3.00 gear. New tilt steering column with DD steering shaft installed with new steering U-joints. Also new rack and pinion. Brand new aluminum radiator and cap installed. There might also be a few surprises because on the receipts from the rod shop there is a charge for Headers and an Oil Pan kit. I didn't see these items nor does the owner know of them being there but with the amount of parts in and around the vehicle they might be there. Now to the body. The body was in great shape from the start for this year. There is just a little surface rust on driver side below door. The only thing that the Rod shop did to the body, other than strip off all the hardware, is chop the roof, I believe the owner told me, 4" to 6" chop which gave this car a very nice look. Most of the welds were ground flat, some near the side edges are still visible. The rear glass was saved, the sides and front glass are gone, but are all flat so it shouldn't be a big deal to cut new ones. The rest of the body is pretty straight there are a couple dents that I could see, a hole or two in the hood, and all the holes where handles and trim were mounted are still there. Overall in good shape. All original parts, trim pieces, handles, lights and light trim, grill, and bumpers come with vehicle. Also there is enough pieces to make definitely one, maybe two grills from what I believe are Desotto grills. The seats that come with the Mercury are from a 1960's Thunderbird, which are popular retrofits. The seats are front & back, non-restored, with the console. So there is everything I know that has been done to restore this 51 Mercury so far. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me before bidding. If I don't know the answer I will find out. If you would like to view the car that is not a problem just contact me through Ebay message and I will set it up. This car is really a rare find in this shape and ready for someone to finish with their personal touch. With recent retirement the owner of this Mercury has moved on to new interests and wants his garage back. If you want a great restoration on a rare classic then this is the car for you! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!! This vehicle is sold as-is with no warranty. The reserve is very low so please do not ask what it is. If you have zero or negative feedback please contact me before you bid or your bid will be canceled. I only want to do this once! Winning bidder will need to pick this vehicle up in Greenville, Va. There are alot of parts so a truck and trailer would be recommended. Winning bidder will pay 10% within 5 days of auction end and remaining balance within 10 days or when vehicle is picked up. Preferred payment is cash or certified check. On Jun-23-11 at 16:55:39 PDT, seller added the following information: I just wanted to add some more details I've learned since listing this car and answering everyone's questions. I went tonight and took some more pics of the suspension and the parts for the air ride system. I pulled all the boxes out of the car and here's what I found. The suspension is all ready for the air ride system however the actual air bags and air control system is NOT installed. The rod shop put steel struts where the airbags go so the car could be transported and to show ride height. So I just wanted everyone to know that the brand new air bags, front and rear, and control system are still in the boxes and will need to be installed. I also found the brand new headers and oil pan kit for the 351 engine. I also had some questions about window fit so the owner and I set window in place and it fit great and the glass was in good shape. I will have all the pics ready if anyone want to send me their email address I will send you the new pics I took. Thanks, Adam
