Vehicle Detail

1986 Mustang GT Convertible, 5-Speed 5.0 liter V8 I picked up this great car a couple years ago with 37,000 original miles from a dealership in Tennessee. We had it shipped to Pennsylvania, registered and inspected. Inspection went fine and she was clean as a whistle. Over the next few months I installed a new convertible top (now a year and a half old), a short throw shifter, 3:73 posi rear, cold air intake, new intake manifold gaskets, exhaust gaskets, valve cover gaskets, headlights, spark plugs and spark plug wires. As near as I could tell the paint was, and still is, original. A few months after getting the car my family and I moved to Florida. I was planning on driving the car to Florida so I took the car to my mechanic for a once over before leaving. This is when I heard the bad news, the car had developed a feint knock in the lower end. I decided I was going to drive it to Florida anyway so I gathered my things, packed up and headed out. To make a long story short, not only did the car make it to Florida but it was my daily driver for the 8 months I was there before moving back to PA. It was November when we made our return to PA and shortly after arriving we decided to put the car into garage storage for the winter with the intention of rebuilding the motor come spring. That Sprint came and went, as did Summer and another winter. So here we are with another Spring gone and beautiful summer weather so faced with rebuilding or not I have decided to sell it. My son is approaching 16 and will need a car of his own. I recently purchased a new truck and if I'm going to put money into anything right now it will be either the wife's 2011 Camaro or whatever we decide to pick up my son. As a result I have decided to let this one go and letting it go CHEAP! If I were to keep her I would get it repainted as the paint is thin, has some chips in the front, fading on the plastic bumpers and light under paint erosion on the drivers door. The rear window regulators need adjustment or replacement as they both require a little assistance coming up when using the power windows. I would obviously rebuild the engine too. My mechanic's suggestion was that the knock was probably there when I picked it up or developed shortly after purchasing as it was likely sitting for a long time prior to that. The vehicle registration history shows huge gaps in time where very little to no mileage was accumulated which supports his theory. When I went to take it out of the garage a couple weeks ago the battery was died. I picked up a replacement for it but it is a bit smaller than the previous so it shifts a little, this will likely need the right size batter but she starts right up. Since the car has been sitting in the garage for so long I didn't bother to have it inspected, I wasn't going to do that until I got the engine finished and got her back from being painted - both of which I've decided not to do at this time. However, the last time I took it to inspection it passed just fine. Before my trip to Florida I replaced the factory radio with an aftermarket Sony MP3, DVD, XM Ready head unit and replaced all of the factory speakers. I also charged the AC which does blow cold, I tested it today when taking the pictures for this listing. There are no leaks from the engine so she is driveway safe. =) You may notice in the pics that the rear veiw mirror is not on the windshield. I just need to pick up a mirror glue kit from the store and put it back on, it had fallen from the heat build up in the garage. As I said, she needs a little TLC to be the perfect summer car but with just 47,000 original miles and almost $2,000 in new parts & labor (listed above) the asking price is a steal!!!!! Vehicle Information H.O. EFI 5.0L-V8 engine, 5 speed manual transmission, Posi traction rear, power steering, power brakes, power windows and locks, tilt wheel, air conditioning, aluminum wheels, rear spoiler, leather interior, center console, rear seating, dual exhaust, on-board information center, AM-FM CD/DVD MP3 XM Ready stereo, factory in dash tachometer, power top, power trunk release and remote fuel door release. Interior Condition The drivers seat is certainly more worn than the passenger side. It could use a restuff and possibly recovering but aside from normal wear and tear and some cracking on the left lumbar support it's not that bad, the pictures show all of this. The carpet is showing it's age, not with holes and wear but just discolored, however it's not bad overall and again the images support this description. The dash is in great shape with no cracks and no fading. Body/Exterior Condition The car is real straight, no dents and a couple of minor dings. Considering this is the original paint it looks real nice!!! It's definitely time for a repaint as the paint is thin and showing signs of wear but it still looks respectable as evident in the pictures. You will also see that the front & rear bumpers are showing signs of age with fading. Undercarriage Condition Solid and in great original condition!! No damages or signs of bottoming out, no rot, etc. Solid floors and mounts. Rear differently is leak free and had a new gasket installed a couple years ago when the rear gears were put in. Mechanical Condition As stated above the car has an audible knock from the bottom end. Despite that she starts right up, idles well and is completely drivable. The exhaust sounds great, there is no smoke and the clutch grabs quite well, no signs of replacement needed. The short throw shifter feels real nice, was professionally installed and suits the car perfectly. If I were keeping her I would rebuild the factory motor and have a terrific running car! The car has almost 48,000 miles and a clear title. Remember, this vehicle is 25 years old so it's not perfect and shouldn't be expected to be. I have tried to take photos of all angles so show how straight the body is but despite that she could use a new paint job as there are imperfections.
