Vehicle Detail
How's that $4 gasoline working out for you, ready for $6 ? How about $8 a gallon ? There is a lot of information about this car and numerous pictures posted at http://www.austinev.org/evalbum/727 Contact me at uniqueproducts@comcast.net for even more pictures by email 1979 Renault LeCar which was converted to electric power first by Electricar. The car came from Canada and never had a gasoline engine or gas tank, but was made electric drive since it was new. Lectric Leopard. It is a 96V DC system using Curtis 1221C 400 Amp controller, Zivan 96 Volt NG1 battery charger, and a 12 Volt 3 stage auxiliary charger for the 12V auxiliary battery which is a deep cycle marine battery. Instrumentation is a Westerberg 0-100% charge (80-104 VDC) voltmeter and 400 Amp ammeter. I drove this for 3 years and then parked it for the last 2 1/2 yrs. I am selling due to medical reasons. It was a great friend of mine and a lot of fun, but it is too hard for me to load my wheelchair in it now, so it has to go. The car will need a new set of 16 x 6 volt T-105 batteries, these are the golf cart style batteries, best purchased at Sam's Club. It will probably also need the auxiliary battery that runs the lights, CD/radio with big speakers in the back package area, horn, etc. I rebuilt the compound wound Prestolite MTC-4001 motor professionally at an electric motor shop. We advanced the motor timing by 10 degrees to accomodate the 96V batteries instead of the 48V battery system that was original to the Electricar. Added a splined clutch disk center to connect the drive motor directly to the transmission input shaft. So this is clutchless now, without flywheel or pressure plate or clutch disk. It shifts fine from 1st to 2nd and back again without a clutch. Upshift is at 32 mph from 1st to 2nd, and downshift at 20 and below. 2nd gear good up to 55 mph at least. 3rd and 4th gear are not used. This car will be great for someone with mechanical skills, will have to be gone through to get it up and running again. When I parked it, everything worked, can't say what all it needs now, but it will need batteries. Sold as is. I built an "ice conditioning" setup for this car. Removed the passenger seat, set in a pierced molded plastic box that held 9 refreezable ice packs of 10 lbs each. There is a radiator fan on the ice box that blows air through the ice. It kept the interior cold like air conditioning for 2-3 hours depending on the outside temp. The ice packs were loaded from a small chest freezer next to the passenger door in the garage. The box/fan/ice packs are included. The freezer is not included in this sale. The passenger seat has been reinstalled, but can be removed to set in the ice box. There is a rear seat heater, small front heater, windshield defrost nichrome wire and a heater that can be plugged up in the garage to 120VAC current to warm up the interior before it is driven. Details on these on the page linked above. Tires 145R13 74S about half tread. There is some bubbling rust at the bottom of quarter panels and fenders and a few dings. Paint is fair. It is a very cute car - everyone looks. Jay Caplan TEL 615-377-2973 8AM-11PM CDT
