1968 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE Both tops and numbers match 1 This is a frame off restoration L79 327/350 HP, posi 4 speed with power windows and power steering car. I took these pictures under the flourescent lights so you can see the car under every light scenario. 2 The car has all new lights, chrome in the rear and everything looks great. Please be patient with the pictures I always put alot of pictures and if you are looking for a great car it is worth the wait. I put ten pictures of the undercarriage at the end. 3 PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR MY RESERVE. IT IS VERY REASONABLE FOR THE CONDITION OF THE RESTORATION. I have sold several car before the auction ended because someone made me a reasonable offer. 4 5 I take my pictures in partial sun, shade and full sun. That way you get to see the car in natural light in each scenario. My pictures are natural and I do not use any software to make them look better than they really are. I am a retired farmer and I do have an Arkansas dealers license. I sell a few cars a year and I do not buy anything I would not keep for myself. 6 In the shade, this car almost looks black. When the sun hits it, the metallic in the paint really comes out. This car is much prettier than the pictures show it. The factory paint code is 983 which is british green for 1968. In 1969, it was the same paint code [983] and they called it phantom green. This was the color everyone wanted back in the day and they were more of these cars ordered and sold than any other color. THERE WERE 4,779 BRITISH GREEN SOLD WITH LEMANS BLUE BEING SECOND AT 4,722 out of ten colors offered and just over 28,000 car for 1968. I had a friend that had a L88 the same color. It was a Chevrolet parts manager in the early 70's and I owned and was around muscle cars in that era. 7 I will tell the story to this car as we go through the pictures. The car has about three hundred miles on it since the restoration was finished. I will drive it a little until it sells. At that point, I will park it and disconnect the battery until it is picked up. It is a matching numbers car and drives great. The car has been done right and will give the new owner many miles of pleasure and comfort. The tires are new too. 8 The complete top is new and everything works nice and easy as it should. The frame of the top has been replaced or power coated and it works like it is new. Absolutely no problems folding it out or up. 9 There is a trick to open and shut the hoods on every corvette I've owned. I noticed that the hood is up on the drivers side. I can tell you about the hood trick. 10 The front bumper has a couple of flaws, but it would not be a deal breaker for anyone. The grill chrome is great. This car is a great car and it does have a minimal amount of flaws. It was driven some as the restoration was finished. It is a beautiful car and turns a lot of heads. It would do great in most car shows and do anyone proud. 11 The car has new clutch pressure plate and bearing. I has new fuel tank, lines and filter. 12 The gas line kept me from getting a good picture. The numbers and letters are easy to read and neat. V0626HT 18S424222 v-Flint plant 06- month June 26-day HT-350 hp special high performance in the motors manual. The google search shows cam ,11to 1 comp quadrajet 4 speed Corvette The 18S424222 is the last part of the vin number. The trim tag shows the L01 and that is July 1, 1968 The transmission is a M22 with the 3925660 case part number I can not see the numbers stamped in the top to be sure it is the original. I feel sure it is though. It has the 220 low close ratio and all 1968s and 69s with that are documented by build sheets have the 660 and not the 661. It is unclear why this discrepancy exists, but we all know GM did not keep the best records. 13 Everything under the hood is rebuilt or remanufactured . The motor was professionally built to run on pump gas. The acuater for the headlights is new and all the vacumn lines and hose are new as well. The carburator was rebuilt and even the factory auto choke work properly as it should. I did not wash the engine compartment and it does show some dust from the restoration and from the farm I live on. 14 The 1968 did not have the chrome in the vents like the 1969. However, I have a new set that will come with the car if it meets the reserve. I personally like the chrome but did not put them in because some people want the car to be factory correct. 15 16 The seats are out of a later model corvette and they are very comfortable and work great. I do have a set of good seats that will go with the car if it meets reserve only. They are out of a 1969 and have the headrest. They are very good seats and everything works but they do need covered. 17 The seal plates are new and and everything in the upholstery is new. THE DASH AND EVERYTHING LOOKS VERY NICE. The car is very good in every way and the steering wheel tilts and the steering wheel was a 1968 only option simulated wood. 18 The tag reads L01 trim std paint 983 19 The 626 on the block was stamped and installed in the frame. On July 1st, the car was completed and stamped L01 which decodes to July 1st 1968. The car was finished in 3 to 4 work days. It was not uncommon for the days to be a full week from motor stamp to trim tag stamp. The L code on the trim tag is July because the production of 1968 started in August 1967. The first month is August = A, Feb = B and so on down the line to July which is L. The block is 3914687 casting and the E288. BLOCKS were made and kept until they were assembled with the right internal parts for the order number. They were then stamped and the car rolled down the line. Then when the car was completed the cowl tag was dated and the vin numbers all matched. I will enclose all of the research numbers I have with the car and the dates codes are in the right time frame. 20 Everything is new in the top part of the hard top and the color is right. The flash on the camera makes it look lighter. It all looks great and I love the seats. All of the interior is new. 21 The shifter on the 4 speed shifts great just as it should - nice and smooth and the trans is the M22 rock crusher #3925660 and yes it make the noise all M22"s do. This transmission was the bullet proof muncie that was only put in high torque models that has the strait cut gears is why it has the whine and what made it hard to tear up. 22 23 All new weatherstripping too. 24 25 26 The latches to open and shut the deck to take the top in and out work properly and the compartment is very nice. 27 28 29 The seal plates are new too. 30 31 32 33 34 When the car was painted this spot was missed. It has now been painted. 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 I took pictures of sections of both sides and the front and rear so you can increase the size or zoom in to see everything. 42 43 44 The tires are new and the trim rings are new too. The doors shut and open properly and they line up nice as they should. 45 46 47 The paint has a great shine and reflects everything. It looks like it is very deep and you could just stick your arm and hand into it. Please just call me if you have questions and I can walk around the car and answer any questions you may have. Just zoom in and take a close look at the whole car. 49 50 The lights work and the windshield wipers as well. All the vacumn lines are new. 51 52 53 54 55 56 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 71 72 73 74 75 Very nice undercarriage with many new parts and everything replaced that was needed. 76 All new bushing, pins, tie rods and ball joints. 77 78 79 80 NEW ROTORS, BRAKE PADS, LINES, HOSES AND MASTER CYLINDERS AND ALL EXHAUST. 81 82 ALL NEW U-JOINTS AND BODY TO FRAME BUSHINGS. 83 All new brake lines and cables. 84 85 Terms of Sale The buyer will submit a NON-REFUNDABLE $2,000.00 deposit within 48 hours of the close of the auction to secure the vehicle. Deposit will be made through Paypal. No sort of checks will be accepted for deposit. An additional fee of $300 will be required of a buyer from outside the United States. On May-22-11 at 13:45:29 PDT, seller added the following information: It has been brouht to my attention that the trans is not a 1968 and their were only about eighty M22 made in 1968. They all went in L88 cars so the tran may be a M21 or if it is a M22 it is out of something other than a 1968. I do not want to misrepresent anything and do appreciate the heads up. Thanks Joe
