It was purchased in November of 1978 and I have a copy of the original registration including a copy of the original title. I have most of the original documents, including the original manuals, and the factory build sheet. I purchased it last year from the original owner as an investment and as you can read and see from the pictures, it is a very, very nice original car. It has about 61,060 ORIGINAL miles. The condition of the body, interior, paint, underbody, etc. also confirms the mileage (it even has the original spark plug wires, radiator hoses, and rear shocks!). I would love to keep the car for myself, but I already have several other cars to care for and have no more room. This is a very comfortable car and drives very nice. It has the ORIGINAL famous Chevy 305 V-8 which has plenty of power and also gets good mileage at the same time. The car runs and drives beautifully…it handles nice….steering and suspension is tight...brakes don’t pull…and rides decently. With a spare set of belts and hoses (the original ones appear to be in good condition, but just in case), I believe this would go across country effortlessly. My mechanic installed a new muffler/tailpipe; air & breather filter; Lube, Oil & Filter change; 2 new belts; new choke pull-off. I also had my mechanic inspect it last week to ensure it will pass the PA inspection. I do not currently have the car registered, so I was not able to obtain a sticker. However, if the next buyer is a PA resident I will pay to have the sticker put on the windshield. The car passed the inspection with no problem at all. The tires have lots of tread but appear to be older (notice the wide white walls). To drive a long distance you may want to consider new tires just to be safe. But they are certainly adequate for around town and did pass inspection. I also have both set of the original keys, which still have a like-new finish. Exterior: This is a beautiful medium-to-dark green metallic body with a white vinyl landau top. The paint appears to be all-original. I am not aware of any bondo anywhere. The finish is still very shiny and reflects the fact it was garage kept. Fade is very minimal and hardly noticeable, only in certain light to the most discernable eye. If I were to keep the car for myself, I would NOT repaint the car. It is show-worthy and very presentable as is. There are a few small marks/dings which I have tried to snap with the camera as best I could. There is a very small ding in the trunk which I could not pick up on the camera. There is a ding on the roof which maybe came from a rock or something from above in the garage. There are a few small scratches here and there, but very minimal and nothing major, consistent with a 60,000 mile car. I tried to snap pictures as best I could. The chrome and the stainless steel are in very good shape and still shine brilliantly also. There is some pitting around the headlights…again, see the pictures. The original vinyl top still holds the color well and looks great. There are no rips or tears in the vinyl top anywhere. No evidence of any bubbling or rust under the vinyl. We installed a new pair of plastic bumper fillers in the rear because the old ones were cracked from age. There is NO RUST anywhere on the body or under the doors. Although not detailed, the underbody & frame is extremely solid. The factory undercoating is still present in some areas and any rust underneath is limited to “surface scale”. The undercoating obviously did a good job in preserving the car. Unlike many Pennsylvania cars, the rust is not heavy at all. My guess is that the car had very little exposure to salt, considering the condition of the body and underbody. I have many more pictures of the car (including the frame/underbody) which I can email upon request. I am sure you will be impressed. Overall, the exterior is in excellent condition. Interior: The interior is also in excellent condition, especially considering the fact the seats and carpets are still original. The car does not appear to have been smoked in. It still smells new just like 1978! There are no rips, stains or holes anywhere. The original owner did have the headliner replaced to original specifications, because of the usual GM sag. The interior is in excellent condition. The carpets are also in good shape without any holes or tears and I do not recall seeing any “thin” spots on the carpet. We still have the original vinyl GM floor mats, which helped to preserve the carpets like new. The headliner is perfect. The door panels are beautiful. The dash is in beautiful shape except there is a crack in the trim on each of the front speaker openings. This could probably be fixed with a little patience without having to replace since this portion is made of wood (see pictures). The trunk is also rust-free and very clean…like brand new. The original spare tire has never been used, neither has the jack. The well that the spare tire sits is totally rust-free. Same with the wheel well areas inside the trunk. Even the original cardboard insert is in tact! Again, the interior is in very, very nice condition. It needs nothing! Mechanical: As stated previously, the car runs like a top. The motor purrs like a kitten, starts instantly, and is very smooth…and has plenty of get up and go. The transmission shifts smooth and immediately goes into gear without hesitation. The exhaust is brand new (other than the catalytic converter). The rear shocks are still original, including the spark plug wires and hoses. The car runs beautifully. The car passed the rigorous Pennsylvania state inspection and just needs a sticker due to the fact my registration expired. The car does have A/C but is NOT working. It appears to hold a charge but the compressor is locked up. Other than that, I am not aware of anything needed at all. I would recommend new tires if you plan to drive on the highway frequently, however the tread is great…not dry-rotted…the tires might just need rebalanced. Also, there are NO oil or transmission leaks to my knowledge. I thought there was a very small drip of antifreeze on the ground over the winter time, but I haven’t noticed any in the last few months. As stated before, the radiator and hoses are still original, but seem to be in great shape! Overall: If you are looking for a good looking, solid, reliable, very clean classic in nice shape, this one’s for you. It runs and drives excellent and will make a very nice classic for you. I have sold several cars on eBay and in all situations had positive feedback. I attempt to describe each vehicle as accurately and honestly as possible and I do not think you will be disappointed. As with anything, if you desire to bid on the vehicle, I would encourage you to see it physically and drive it for yourself before you bid. I have plenty more pictures which I can email if you want. 1978 Buick Regal V-8 / Excellent Condition / 61,060 original miles / 1 owner until 2010 / 100 pics /
You are bidding on my 1978 Buick Regal coupe which was purchased new at Cambria Motors (Buick-Opel) Inc. inJohnstown, PA, which is about 35 miles away from my location. It was purchased in November of 1978 and I have a copy of the original registration including a copy of the original title. I have most of the original documents, including the original manuals, and the factory build sheet. I purchased it last year from the original owner as an investment and as you can read and see from the pictures, it is a very, very nice original car. It has about 61,060 ORIGINAL miles. The condition of the body, interior, paint, underbody, etc. also confirms the mileage (it even has the original spark plug wires, radiator hoses, and rear shocks!). I would love to keep the car for myself, but I already have several other cars to care for and have no more room. This is a very comfortable car and drives very nice. It has the ORIGINAL famous Chevy 305 V-8 which has plenty of power and also gets good mileage at the same time. The car runs and drives beautifully…it handles nice….steering and suspension is tight...brakes don’t pull…and rides decently. With a spare set of belts and hoses (the original ones appear to be in good condition, but just in case), I believe this would go across country effortlessly. My mechanic installed a new muffler/tailpipe; air & breather filter; Lube, Oil & Filter change; 2 new belts; new choke pull-off. I also had my mechanic inspect it last week to ensure it will pass the PA inspection. I do not currently have the car registered, so I was not able to obtain a sticker. However, if the next buyer is a PA resident I will pay to have the sticker put on the windshield. The car passed the inspection with no problem at all. The tires have lots of tread but appear to be older (notice the wide white walls). To drive a long distance you may want to consider new tires just to be safe. But they are certainly adequate for around town and did pass inspection. I also have both set of the original keys, which still have a like-new finish.
Exterior:
This is a beautiful medium-to-dark green metallic body with a white vinyl landau top. The paint appears to be all-original. I am not aware of any bondo anywhere. The finish is still very shiny and reflects the fact it was garage kept. Fade is very minimal and hardly noticeable, only in certain light to the most discernable eye. If I were to keep the car for myself, I would NOT repaint the car. It is show-worthy and very presentable as is. There are a few small marks/dings which I have tried to snap with the camera as best I could. There is a very small ding in the trunk which I could not pick up on the camera. There is a ding on the roof which maybe came from a rock or something from above in the garage. There are a few small scratches here and there, but very minimal and nothing major, consistent with a 60,000 mile car. I tried to snap pictures as best I could. The chrome and the stainless steel are in very good shape and still shine brilliantly also. There is some pitting around the headlights…again, see the pictures. The original vinyl top still holds the color well and looks great. There are no rips or tears in the vinyl top anywhere. No evidence of any bubbling or rust under the vinyl. We installed a new pair of plastic bumper fillers in the rear because the old ones were cracked from age. There is NO RUST anywhere on the body or under the doors. Although not detailed, the underbody & frame is extremely solid. The factory undercoating is still present in some areas and any rust underneath is limited to “surface scale”. The undercoating obviously did a good job in preserving the car. Unlike many Pennsylvania cars, the rust is not heavy at all. My guess is that the car had very little exposure to salt, considering the condition of the body and underbody. I have many more pictures of the car (including the frame/underbody) which I can email upon request. I am sure you will be impressed. Overall, the exterior is in excellent condition.
Interior:
The interior is also in excellent condition, especially considering the fact the seats and carpets are still original. The car does not appear to have been smoked in. It still smells new just like 1978! There are no rips, stains or holes anywhere. The original owner did have the headliner replaced to original specifications, because of the usual GM sag. The interior is in excellent condition. The carpets are also in good shape without any holes or tears and I do not recall seeing any “thin” spots on the carpet. We still have the original vinyl GM floor mats, which helped to preserve the carpets like new. The headliner is perfect. The door panels are beautiful. The dash is in beautiful shape except there is a crack in the trim on each of the front speaker openings. This could probably be fixed with a little patience without having to replace since this portion is made of wood (see pictures). The trunk is also rust-free and very clean…like brand new. The original spare tire has never been used, neither has the jack. The well that the spare tire sits is totally rust-free. Same with the wheel well areas inside the trunk. Even the original cardboard insert is in tact! Again, the interior is in very, very nice condition. It needs nothing!
Mechanical:
As stated previously, the car runs like a top. The motor purrs like a kitten, starts instantly, and is very smooth…and has plenty of get up and go. The transmission shifts smooth and immediately goes into gear without hesitation. The exhaust is brand new (other than the catalytic converter). The rear shocks are still original, including the spark plug wires and hoses. The car runs beautifully. The car passed the rigorous Pennsylvania state inspection and just needs a sticker due to the fact my registration expired. The car does have A/C but is NOT working. It appears to hold a charge but the compressor is locked up. Other than that, I am not aware of anything needed at all. I would recommend new tires if you plan to drive on the highway frequently, however the tread is great…not dry-rotted…the tires might just need rebalanced. Also, there are NO oil or transmission leaks to my knowledge. I thought there was a very small drip of antifreeze on the ground over the winter time, but I haven’t noticed any in the last few months. As stated before, the radiator and hoses are still original, but seem to be in great shape!
Overall:
If you are looking for a good looking, solid, reliable, very clean classic in nice shape, this one’s for you. It runs and drives excellent and will make a very nice classic for you. I have sold several cars on eBay and in all situations had positive feedback. I attempt to describe each vehicle as accurately and honestly as possible and I do not think you will be disappointed.
