Vehicle Detail
This is a rare 1952 pilot house Dodge B pickup (titled as 1953.) The truck is in very good condition and runs and drives very well. The truck is unmodified and appears to have its original flat head six engine and, three speed on the column, manual transmission. It even has the original floor button starter. It’s a very cool truck! The truck was restored many years ago by a local doctor. He drove it for several years and then used it as a display vehicle in front of his office. When his son moved the practice, the truck was sold to a local cabinet maker who, reportedly, spent $2,000 to make the truck roadworthy again, including brake work and new tires. I purchased the truck about a year ago when the cabinet maker decided to move back to Illinois. He told me that the truck had been trouble free except that it had overheated once when he was returning home from about a 12 mile trip to a neighboring community. When I bought the truck I flushed the radiator and replaced the thermostat and the upper radiator hose and repaired the thermostat housing. The radiator fluid was obviously old and the thermostat housing was leaking. I have not experienced the overheating and in fact you can watch the heat gauge drop once the thermostat opens and then settle into a steady temperature. However, I have only driven the truck short distances. The only other mechanical issue that I have noted is that it appears that the right front brake doesn’t release as well as it should. It seems to drag until the truck starts rolling. The flat head six on the truck starts right up and runs like a sewing machine. It shows about 40 pounds of pressure. I converted the oil-bath air-cleaner to accept an air filter, but I still have all of the oil-bath parts. The paint on the truck is very nice, however, there are some areas where rust is beginning to bubble and there are a few areas on the hood where the rust has come through (you can see this in the pictures.) Also, the cabinet maker crudely painted over the Doctor’s office info. The interior of the truck is in good condition and includes seat belts and floor mats. The bed of the truck has its original wood floor covered by what appears to be a fitted aluminum cap. Underneath, the frame and running boards show only surface rust. There is some rust in the battery box and it appears that new inner fenders were installed over rusted inner fenders. In summary, this is a great running truck that could be driven as is, be an easy restoration or a great resto-mod, even though I would hate to see that. Please don’t hesitate to email me with questions or to set an appointment to see this rare find.
