Vehicle Detail
For the 1970 Plymouth (RIP) model year to promote the various new models Chrysler had it launched several ad campaigns featuring the St. Louis Blues Barracuda, the AAR 'Cuda, the Grand Coupe Barracuda and of course the Hemicuda. The very first ad blitz for the all new E body ‘Cuda to come out of Chrysler that actually preceeded the release of the 1970 models by 2 weeks was for the all new, redesigned pony car Barracuda with a very special red with black vinyl top and black “hockey stick” side stripe Hemicuda with the brand new for 1970 front and rear elastomeric bumpers, fog lamps and hood pins. To see the actual ad click on this link http://www.plymouthbarracuda.net/information/1970-plymouth-barracuda-ad2.shtml While Chrysler was late to the elastomeric game as Chevy and Pontiac had them for '69, they caught up in '70 and offered them on the red on red cars and by mid year offered about a dozen different colors. There were only a handful of these special red with red rubber bumper cars built during the 1970 model year to coincide with the TV, magazine and billboard ads depicting the red/red color scheme and sold as sales bank cars and this is one of those cars. While it is not a "HEMI" ‘Cuda it is most certainly a 'Cuda and a very desirable one at that. The 383 Magnum was the standard but you could also get an optional 340, 440 six pack or Hemi. This is the 340 version and still has original numbers matching block. In addition to the red on red promo theme (and red interior) it is also loaded down with quite a few add'l options that I'll get into later. I would first like to say that this car is truly an investment grade automobile and I dont use that term loosely like some here on Ebay. To qualify as "Investment Grade" it needs to meet a minimum of 3 qualifications. 1.) First and foremost-Desirability. Is a 1970 'Cuda “anything” desirable? Is the Pope Catholic? Check. It fills the same seat as the ‘69 Camaro holds for Chevy, the ‘69-70 Mustang holds for Ford, the ‘69-70 GTO and the ‘69-70 442 are a couple others that will ALWAYS be desirable, especially if it still retains its original motor, which brings me to number 2. 2.) Originality. This car is restored per the codes on its fender tag and has its numbers matching engine, all body stampings match title, fender tag and dash plate, its fall, 1969 all over again for this car. Some people choose to ignore (at their own peril) the orig color of the car and paint the car in their favorite color. Whenever a person does this they "penalize" the cars COLLECTOR value the approximate cost of a complete new paint job to turn it back into its orig color. While the owner may prefer black, when it comes time to sell it, all things being equal, he will always get more if its wearing its orig color scheme. 3.) Quality of Restoration. While this is not a legit number 1 car (very few cars are) it is a very solid 2 and would not take much at this point to bring it up to number 1 status. Mostly just adding correct date coded parts like hoses, plug wires and belts. The paintwork cant get much better. It is truly show quality. The entire body was dipped and treated with a rust preventative coating inside and out then brought up from the bare metal with all PPG paint products. DP50LF epoxy primer, then blocked out with K36 and then K38 filler primers and sealed with an epoxy primer sealer and top coated with the correct DDC Rallye Red single stage paint and sanded and buffed to a mirror like sheen. This car has had a fresh, complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration. Every nut, bolt, washer, fastener, latch, light hosing, trim piece, etc of any kind was removed and either replaced or/and restored, polished and reinstalled. All original parts were used where possible. This is NOT some thrown together bunch of parts but rather an extensive 4 year effort with extreme attention to every detail. There are over 2000 man hours in this car! It has less than 500 miles on it so far, has yet to see any rain and all the little bugs have already been sorted out. There is NO NEED for a trailer. Just fly in and drive it home. It drives straight and handles tight. It is truly a brand new car inside and out. Suspension/brakes/wheels&tires: The leaf springs are new, heavy duty multi leaf with original part numbers, new shocks on all 4 corners, all new brakes front and rear with stainless brake lines and all components inside rear drums were restored and painted. Power disk on front. All new brake hoses. New booster, master cyl and proportioning valve. Complete stainless emerg brake cable setup, correct for 1970 only. Front suspension completely rebuilt with all new upper and lower bushings, sway bar bushings, tie rod ends and ball jts. Also has all original paint dobs and pencil markings on suspension and rear end. The wheels are 15x7 in frt and 15x8 in back with TA radials all around. Also has new gas tank with stainless fuel lines and complete new exhaust system with 2-1/2" galvanized pipe with turbo mufflers. The car sounds like a small block 'Cuda should. Interior: New dash pad, new carpet, new seat covers in orig pattern (with seat tracks restored), new seat belts (correct 1970 only version) and new headliner. The orig steering wheel and column were completely restored, inside and out as were both pedal assemblies and the emerg brake assy and shifter knob. All pain stakingly painted the correct colors and textures. The heater/ac box was disassembled and completely restored inside and out with new heater core. AC evaporator core was flushed, pressure tested and reused. All gauges and switches work as they should inc tach and odometer. Orig AM radio works great with new speaker and antennae. Engine/trans: Orig numbers matching block, crank, heads, intake and exhaust manifolds (#2863553 & 2863546). Engine was bored and new 10:1 KB hypereutectic pistons, new rings and bearings installed. Comp Cams hyd cam 1 size up from stock and has a nice loping idle but still has plenty of vacuum for the brakes. New hi-vol oil pump with 55-60 psi at idle. Correct voltage reg and original numbers matching heavy duty radiator (#2998949) recored as a 4 row with numbers matching shroud and correct 7 blade fan. Engine runs cool at all times. Orig power steering box was completely gone thru and also has new pump and hoses. New ac compressor with new dryer and orifice tube. Ac system is 100% complete and ready for freon. Correct 727 torqueflight trans was completely rebuilt with new 2400-2600 converter. Orig 8-3/4 rear with orig hwy friendly 3:23 gears. Car cruises at 70 mph and a smooth 3000 rpm but will still lay down some rubber. I HAVE DESCRIBED CAR AS BEST I CAN BUT CAN NOT ALLOW FOR INDIVIDUAL TASTE. AS ALWAYS WINNING BID IS NOT AN INVITATION TO INSPECT CAR BUT A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT! IF YOU DONT INTEND TO PAY FOR IT DONT BID ON IT! I URGE ALL INTERESTED PARTIES TO INSPECT CAR IN PERSON OR SEND AN AGENT TO REPRESENT YOU. CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION ANYTIME WITH APPOINTMENT I want to add that I sold a roadrunner door recently and the buyer got mad and posted a negative feedback (my only one) because I could not honor the $10 shipping quote that EBAY plugged in FOR ME without my knowledge EVEN THOUGH I put in the description that the shipping WAS NOT gonna be $10. Anybody with half a brain knows you cant even box or crate a freakin car door for $10 much less ship it for that. I refunded his pymt minus my cost to relist it and I think that is fair and am appealing the neg feedback with ebay. Anyone who desires can see for themselves by clicking on my feedback and clicking on the item number referenced to see my shipping costs were very clear.
