This is a beautiful tour bike. The GSG series is highly reliable and incredibly long lasting. It's a 1981 with 14058 miles. The previous owner serviced it just before I bought it. I purchased the bike last year and had only ridden it 20 miles. Since I've purchased it- the carbs have been cleaned, the air intakes replaced, and new rubber liners. Lots of general work done and small parts replaced. Brand new battery installed- Starts right up. According to the mechanic- there is only a direct short off of the fuse box behind ignition switch. The bike is great besides the short. The short allows the bike to run for about 4 miles until it looses power. I am not a mechanic, but I recently found out that the wrong kind of battery was installed before I bought a new one. This may have taken care of the problem. I'm telling you this in case you were planning on driving it long distances, I would want to get it checked out first. Otherwise, the bike is fine... again, I'm not a mechanic... just passing along what I was told. I'm parting with it because it's no longer fits my lifestyle.
