Vehicle Detail

A really well MAINTAINED 92 vette with extensive receipts. So what do you do when you have one too many FUN-cars? That is, two convertibles that you have maintained/upgraded/enjoyed? And an aging ( 70 years old this month) left hip that is beginning to limit your ability to enjoy the pair of them? Well you drive both of themon the same day up into the mountains.... for Breakfast and then Lunch.... and then decide which one to sell. The Much-Modified Miata did Breakfast, the slightly modified Vette did Lunch. My Miata is kinda like on old sweater: comfortable and loose and not noticed much. My Vette is harder to get into/outof for me but seldom fails to draw questions/comments like "had the same vette in college" or "always wanted one of those".....I meet a lot of people in the Vette. The car is well optioned with: PW/P-locks/P-steering/P-brakes/RWdefogger/Dual-P-seats/P-antenna/AC/ABS/traction control/heatedmirrors/P-mirrors/tan leather/automatic 4-spd w-OD/numerous little lights that go on in the strangest places. This Vette like most cars requires Maintaince, some of it expensive. But I tend to overmaintain (so my X-wife used to say) my cars a bit. In the last 8 months the car has had: NEW opti-spark (distributor) a $585 part, water-pump a $287 part, 8-plugs $150 Labor, serpentine belt, brakes, tires, coolant, Syn-Oil, Rims a $500 part, both Cats and both oxygen-sensors @$900 and so much more that slips the memory right now. All the normal-small stuff is done carefully such as filters/wipers/etc is done. O yeah, and a Sears Diehard Gold with 60 month warrenty (a battery). Receipts go with the car for right at $4000. parts/labor. A lot of the work was done by a local (MR corvettes) and Sears, both of whom do good warrenties/good work. If fact the Corvete guy was the one who turned me on to being proactive about big Maint-Items instead of waiting for difficulty. Just last week he noticed a little leak from the oil-filter housing while changing me over from Mobile-1 Syn-oil to Schaffers (as used by Hendricks NASCAR Racing team!) Syn-oil. Well, $195. and two hours later he had removed the aluminum housing, replaced 3 gaskets, changed the oil/filter and I do not get that random drip on my garage floor so...it pays to maintain the car in really good shape. So you could look at the purchase as.............................................. an excellent Vette for just $4350......... ($8350. BIN minus $4000. in recent maint/upgrades) I started with a Florida car that had good paint and excellent leather. But I wanted the "look" of the ZR1 back-end AND the Lower-Fender-Panels and Rims of an 89 Vette. So I found a pair of 89 LFPs and an additional set of 92 LFPs on Ebay and had the body shop "mate" them. Then I found a set of 89 rims in white. So my resulting car has the ZR1 rear (that came on Vetts starting in 91) and the Rims-Gills of the 89. The original LFPs and stock sawblade 92 rims come with the car should you want to go back to a stock look (or just switch back and forth as suits you). I also replaced the 3-piece front spoiler and the exterior emblems. So the car runs great, looks great and should require NO (or very little) maint. work for a long time. It can go from "Unique" to "Stock" in an afternoon. All the books/manuals/articles/receipts/spareparts go with the car. And I would be happy to have your mechanic (at YOUR expense) check it out. Should not be more than sevedral hundred and I have heard EBAY makes it easy to find a local. A few items still need attention: a small patch of carpet is cut and hanging loose on the passenger side (pic), the original (huge) Corvette Entertainment Center died and I bought a kit that allows an standard-size aftermarket CD-radio to be installed in the 4" by 7" opening (and the kit contains the antenna adapter, the mounting brackets, small "cubby" for under the new CD and the surround molding), no radio yet and the kit is NIB. And if buying a car over the air-waves makes you nervous, please review my 250+ Feedbacks, my 100% satisfaction rating and comments regarding the toy- cars I buy/sell like "car better than the ad" and "helpful seller before and after the deal" and so on. I have found that "overdeliver and underpromise" makes everyone happs so.... you can buy with confidence. The mid-level book value is $9200. per KBB. And I took the 14 1992 Vetts for sale on Ebay yesterday and added up their BIN prices and/or current bids and the average was $12,400. per Vette. Being a former computer guy, I then threw out the two outliers (highest and lowest milage) and reaveraged the 12. The average was now $12,225. This tells me that many Vette guys are real optomists when it comes to selling their car. But it also informed my selection of a modest BIN price and a reserve for mine. and via the VIN I found that the car listed for $29,725. new, wow............ On May-13-11 at 05:57:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Sorry, forgot to explain the top but thanks for the question: it comes off and fits behind the seats on 4 rubber brackets or "holders", it seems black in the pics but is really just a "smoked grey" see-thru when inside the car, unlike a lot of these this one is quite clear and free of any cracks. Chevy supplied a small special tool for removing it that stores in the elbow-box. Really just a tiny ratchet-drive with a star-bit on the end. And the top is light enough that even at my age it is easy to install/remove. On May-13-11 at 09:08:46 PDT, seller added the following information: The opti-spark is what we used to call, back in the day, a distributor. When I had the opti-spark replaced I specified that MR-Vette use the Delco (OEM) equipment, same for the waterpump. Therer are cheaper aftermarket units available but the shop will not warranty them. I had him put the old pieces in bags for me so I might see why they cost so much. I could now see that they are now Gear-Driven and impressive carved chunks of aluminum. If you want I will send them along with the car so you can see for yourself. and........... thanks for the question. On May-16-11 at 17:26:01 PDT, seller added the following information: Please Note: I will be lowering the BIN price from time to time as my part toward sharing in the transportation cost. This however cuts two ways. You can wait for the lowest BIN price and.............. see it sold right out from under your "good intentions". Or you can decide to move on it. Stay tuned. On May-18-11 at 10:00:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Sorry, my bad, I had forgotten the strange Ebay "rule" that removes the BIN price when the Reserve price is reached. For someone who wants to move on buying the car at the BIN price, just take the last published BIN price and subtract 100. Should this work for you then contact me at ogmac3rd@q.com. Thanks and again, sorry for complicating things, was not my intent. On May-18-11 at 18:16:11 PDT, seller added the following information: The world moves fast on Ebay, former Hi-Bidder dropped out and the BIN now shows again at the promised $7350. So act accordingly. (and if you have to ask permission from someone , wife-girlfriend-whatever, to buy then please do not bid on my car?) ThanksOn May-20-11 at 14:54:39 PDT, seller added the following information: OK "watchers", the bin-price is now as low as it gets....foldem or play....:)
