Vehicle Detail

Here, we have a rare car, with a Very Interesting History. Purchased by me in Reno in 08' from a guy that purchased it in 01' on Ebay, ( I have all the paperwork), where the car had sat in a barn in Massachusetts, parked since 1969, when the Water Pump went out. Notice, the windshield still has the last registration sticker in it. Thus, the original 52,000 miles. Needless to say, the car needed a total restoration, but because it was only on the road for 5 years, it was very straight and relatively Rust Free. The motor was stuck, from sitting 40+ years, so the engine was removed, disassembled, rebuilt with new Rings, Gaskets- Seals and of course a Water Pump. When the engine was disassembled, it was very obvious that this was truly a Low Mileage Unit. Bearing surfaces are beautiful and smooth. Also, in rebuilding other components of the car, such as the Brakes, with the disc's like new, it was also very clear that this was truly a low mileage car. With the engine out, I repainted the engine bay the matching color, in preparation for the body repaint. The body, with relatively no rust, was striped to bare metal before any work was done. No Rust on the doors, lower panels or rockers. The only rust was limited to a small spot at the rear of the spare tire well and a couple small spots in the drivers floor. All of the hydraulics were rebuilt, Brakes, Clutch, with the exception of the brake booster which is by-passed. the brakes work fine without it. The fuel system was completely re-done including new fuel lines, removal and cleaning and resealing the gas tank. In addition, the radiator was also re-worked. The under side of the car was completely stripped of undercoating and resealed with Por-15. It is so clean, you could eat off of it. The car was painted with a PPG base-coat, clear-coat Silver, which to be honest, is very nice, not show quality, but a nice driver level. The Interior: much time and expense was spent on the interior, Beginning with the Hand Bound Carpets, Italian Leather Upholstery, and Restored Door Panels. The original dash was only cleaned-up, as it is in perfect shape. The headliner was the only item that wasn't re-done, but probably should have been. The windows, front and Rear, were not removed, as the rubber moldings are still, after 50+ years, soft and in great shape, due to being storied, in-doors out of the sun for so long. In addition, all of the door moldings are also very nice and original. Also, Very Rare with these cars, this car has the Original Aluminum Hood, (Very Rare). I have restored several 2600 Sprints, over the years, but never have I seen one with an Aluminum Hood. So, here is a Very Nice, Running Car, needing only a couple little things, like, the rear bumper, and front grill finish is a little weak, the front and rear windshield moldings suffered some damage in the "stripping " process, but I have replacements that I will include with the purchase. Also, I have ordered new accelerator pump diaphragms, as the carbs were cleaned and I hoped that they would perform , but they are not. Pictured, are both the Original Tires and Wheels and also, after market 16" BBS wire Mesh Alloy Wheels which, to me, really "set off" the Car. Either sets of wheels can be fitted, one or the other. As you may know, the original wheels and tires are an odd, 400MMX 4.5" wide, with difficult and expensive Michelin Tires to match. The two power windows are working, as well as all of the other electronics. But because this has been sitting for a year or so, there with be some "sorting" needed, I'm sure. This car is very presentable, and a blast to drive. With the torque of this big six, and the crispness of the near-perfect transmission, this is a Awesome Touring car, just as intended but the original designers. With a Clear Oregon Title in hand, she is ready to go, and I must say, looking at others for sale, in this price range, there are no Unknown Surprises, or Expenses, that one would expect from a car that needs a Total Restoration, Especially one with RUST..
