1983 Suzuki

This is a 1983 Suzuki GR 650 X Tempter. Sold for only two years in the United States, it was ahead of it's time. It has been well maintained for over the years but seldom ridden. It has 14,120 miles and can be ridden daily. Some upgrades I've made over the years include modifications to the fuel petcock, headlight control and air filter. The tires are original and need replacement. The rear drive chain is recent and the battery is new. The turn signals have been removed and I still have two. The original tool kit and security chain (key missing) are included. The tank has been treated with a crème sealer. The top end (cylinder & head) had an oil “weep” since I bought it in 1987. I re-torqued the head and it minimized the problem but the fix is a top end gasket set. The overall condition is good with minor defects. It starts and runs great! Defects include scratches on the seat and right side cover, scratch on tachometer cover and I have removed the mirrors which frosted over time. Some of the aluminum on the engine has oxidized and needs buffing. The tail light chrome is plastic and has bubbled over time (see photos).The gas tank has a spot approx. 1/4” that paint is touched up. Last licensed in 2005, it has a clear Texas title. I have never had a problem obtaining an Inspection Sticker with the turn signals missing. Overall, this is a great 28 year old bike that starts and runs good and is easy on gas. The engine is quiet and everything works. Also included is a GR650 Tempter Factory Service Manual. Sold as is with no warranty. Some history; The GR650 was a standard motorcycle built by Suzuki. In the United States it was the GR650 Tempter, and worldwide as simply GR650. The GR650, saddled with the "Tempter" name, was only available in the United States for 2 years, as 1983 and 1984 models. The GR650 was produced from 1983 to 1989, The GR650 featured an air-cooled DOHC parallel twin engine with chain drive and was designed for nimble handling. It featured a two-stage flywheel which used a centrifugal clutch to lower flywheel mass above 3,000 RPM. This was intended to provide easier take-off at low RPM and better responsiveness at higher RPMs. It also featured a progressive mono-shock rear suspension. To induce better swirling of the air-fuel mixture in the GR650 engine, Suzuki used a "sub-intake port," which ran a tube from the carburetor throat to the intake port just above the valve head. Suzuki claimed that this allows the GR650 to run with a leaner mixture than usual, which improves economy. Contact me with any questions. Local pickup only.
