Vehicle Detail

I purchased this 1975 Honda Gold Wing on eBay in 2006 from a collector in Bakersfield, California who bought it from the original owner in 2002 with 4,575 miles on the odometer. It originally was purchased in Fayetteville, NC where, incidentally, I bought my first wing in 1975. It was maintained in an indoor environment in near flawless condition by the two owners yet with only 7000 total miles. When I saw the eBay posting, I had a vision of a trip across the US back to Virginia. So that is how it worked. I paid for the bike before I left Virginia, confident that it would make the trek home, which turned out to be 4000 miles including a cruise on US 1 to Carmel and Yosemite, all in 10 days. Mileage is now 16,091 since I only drive about 1000 miles a year. Now I have a Mazda MX5 and I just don’t ride enough these days. This bike runs great, just like my original 75, but it does not like to sit for weeks without being ridden. I guess the modern fuel is more volatile, and the float bowels are vented and small so fuel evaporates. New stock plugs and genuine Honda float valves have done the most for smooth performance. Everything works as it should; better in fact than when I left California. The bike has never been restored. When I got it home there were typical aftermarket additions that were removed with the exception of the Vetter faring and handlebars. I know it looks beautiful stock, but it sure is more comfortable with a faring. The seat, grab bar and original handlebars were removed when new and were graciously returned by the original owner. The handlebars have still not been changed out because it is more comfortable as is. Oh yes, I do have an after market seat (not bad looking) that was on the bike for 31 years with a seam tare that is included. The storage environment has always been dry and shielded from the sun so there is virtually no rust or fading. The photographs do not exaggerate the appearance. The spokes, nipples and rims look like they are a year old. The mufflers have never been removed or painted so there is typical light rust, but nothing from battery acid. The paint has only slight chipping, particularly on the radiator cowl. There is one scratch about 1.5 inch long on the LH faux tank cover that has touch up paint. The crash bar has been removed and there are dents in the frame where it was attached. The rear fender has a crack at the bottom center resulting from the stress of a luggage rack, now removed. The photographs were taken after a quick spray wash without any detailing or glossy spray to heighten appearance. The bottom line is that this bike looks like you would expect a ‘75 in 1978 after 3 years of careful use. There are a lot of odds and ends that are included like the original bill of sale, 3 shop manuals, trickle charger, brake pads, etc. Could you drive it back to California? I know I would love to. The problem for me is that I would have to turn around and drive it back to Virginia. My granddaughter needs $3000 to finish her degree this summer, so you can guess what the reserve is. I know that there are specific questions to be answered. All I request is that you please be considerate of my time and only ask if you are sincerely interested in a purchase. Note that some photographs were taken in the winter without the Vetter faring, but the others were taken this week. The Vetter is in near perfect condition. Both the stock head light and a later model in the Vetter are installed. Usual terms and conditions apply. PayPal is accepted only as a $500 deposit within 48 hours. If the buyer is not satisfied at the time of final purchase, the $500 will be refunded less the cost of the eBay listing. The balance is required on site in cash within 14 days. This is pick up only in Salem, Virginia; I will not deliver.
