Vehicle Detail
Mercedes, 1979 450 SL Convertible This classic car has had two owners. The first owner, literally a little old lady that received the car for her 30th wedding anniversary, drove it to the mall and grocery store for 17 years and sold the car shortly after the death of her husband. The present owner residing in the same town, purchased the car in 1996, after a search and comparison of dozens of SL’s in the South Florida area. The car has been garage kept for 32 years and in fact today it resides in a carpeted garage with no need for oil drip protection. This car is mechanically as sound as it looks. Check out the list of mechanical components that have been replaced. Some required, some just to keep it “new”. New convertible top, 1996; new carpet throughout, 1999; replaced water pump 1999; complete air conditioning rebuild, 2008; new transmission 2007; new exhaust hanger system, 2010; new steering gear box 2010; complete hydraulic brake component rebuild, 2010; power steering hoses, 2011; new transmission mounts and motor mounts , 2011; new Firestone Primwell 40,000 mile tires, 2011. All paperwork and all original manuals, see picture. Check out those wheels!. Yes, they are the original aluminum factory wheels. The factory delivered the car with a silver paint on the wheels. These wheels have had the paint removed and the aluminum polished. It sets the car off as you see in the pictures. However, if you are a purest, the wheels can easily be repainted to look like the factory issue. A close look also reveals the radio is not stock. Cruising the beaches of South Florida with the standard issue factory radio just did not cut it. The car has been retrofitted with a Panasonic CD/ Radio system, JBL woofers and Boston Acoustic speakers under the back compartment. A Sony 700 Watt amplifier mounted in the trunk provides the power. Again, if you are a purest, the original radio is safely packed away in the closet and can be reinstalled using the existing mountings. The speakers and amp can be removed with no sign that they were ever installed. Why sell this perfect car? Not easy after fifteen years, time to move on to a little newer classic with a power top. Any questions, do not hesitate to make contact.
