Vehicle Detail
Porsche 1972 911 S Targa VIN # 9112310246 Original Engine # 6329034 Original Color (fresh Glasurit Paint) Silver Metallic NO RUST (ever) Two Owners from newThere are less of the Porsche 2.4L Mechanically Fuel Injected 911 S cars made than the 911 RS. These are very fun to drive, reliable and desirable investment cars. A 911 S Targa like this one comes around rarely. Has correct: ‘72 911 S engine, front steel bumper w/ spoiler lip, Rare and correct Behr front oil cooler (also found on the 911 SR, ST factory competition cars), Large front Aluminum brake Calipers, S Gauges, S Small diameter Leather wrapped Steering wheel, 15 x 6” Fuchs alloys all around (and spare), S bumper & rocker wide trim…… History: Dave White (IMSA GTU Champion 1978 driving the Porsche 935) writes: “ As I can best remember, Don Thompson (Tampa Florida) purchased the car from the original owner Gilbert Snyder (Miama, Florida). Don first brought the car to Dave White Autosports for service in 1975 or 1976. The car was maintained by us for over 20 years. In late 1999 Don wanted to get everything mechanical redone. We installed new brake rotors & pads, rebuilt the calipers, installed NEW axles, replaced all of the wheel bearings, new shift bushings and coupler, rebuilt the top end of the engine and installed new plug wires, distributor cap, plugs and rotor. The injection pump was sent to Robert Fairchild Industries for a complete rebuild and the injectors were tested and serviced by Fairchild. We also completely rebuilt the 5 speed transmission with new bearings and seals. The cost for all of the above work was around $12,000. Don then had us service the engine for him in 2006. We replaced the spark plugs and adjust the valves and oil / filter change in 2006.” Body / Paint: Never Crashed. NO RUST EVER. Front Battery Boxes, Fuel Tank Floors, Tire well, all closing panels, complete floor pans, rockers, fenders and bumpers ARE ALL RUST FREE – NO rust repairs ever to any part of this 1972 911 S. Recent repaint to the original color (Glasurit Metallic Silver). Seals replaced (Windshield, Trunk, Body panel seals, Targa Bar to rear window seal, Bumper seals) New Front Metal Grills, All Turn signal lenses, Reflectors, Rocker Moldings, Bumper Moldings, Bumper End Caps, Wipers, ALL Emblems (Crest, Rear Porsche & 911 S lettering) Carpets replaced with original German carpet set from Autos International. Seats (front and rear) recovered. New German felt front Trunk carpet set. All front and rear hood latch assembly strikers and latches were properly replated yellow cad. Mechanicals: Car has the correct original engine that the car was delivered with (6329034). Engine is complete as original with the 2.4L Mechanical S Fuel Injection stacks and pump, Air Cleaner assembly, Flapper Box, Fuse Cover, Red Fan Shroud, Factory Heat Exchangers and proper exhaust and (properly replated w/ yellow cad) Fan Strap and Hose Clamps throughout. Engine runs well. The tranny, clutch and brakes are all in excellent operation condition. Misc: Items included: Original tool kit in good condition, 15 x 6 Fuchs Spare wheel, nice original Bilstein Jack, Original owner’s manual, red binder, dealer delivery Maintenance Records Binder with it’s red / clear cover. Car was delivered with Air Conditioning. The compressor is not mounted in the car – it is included in the sale. Car Needs: Targa top rebuilt ( the original targa top is included. The top was reconditioned and will fit the car. The work on the top is not proper and I recommend having it redone by a professional Porsche upholstery shop. The car would benefit from a new set of struts and shocks and a good cleaning underneath. The car will come with the title and Bill of Sale from Don Thompson (the car’s second owner).
