Vehicle Detail

This is a 1968 International Metro 1500 Step Van.This is an all aluminum step van I purchased this vehicle approximately 7 years ago. I have used it for mobile storage. I no longer need it and would like to see it go to someone who will continue to use it. Its a pretty neat old school step van. Would make a great rat rod or swap meet van. First off, I have never really driven this van on the streets. It does run and drive, it will stop. However I would not say it is road worthy at this point. I used it mostly for storage at my shop, never on the highway. The front tires hold air, they are older, they are 7.50x17 the rear tires looked newer when I bought it, they hold air as well The electrical system will need work. The lights, brake lights, etc never worked when I bought it, I didnt care because it was never going on the road. The Left front windshield has a crack in it. The rear doors would need the latches replaced if you want to open it from the outside. I have it so it locks from the inside When I bought it, I did manage to inspect the front brakes, they were in excellent shape, looked very good, not sure about the rears There is some rust on each side of the front floors, as they are really the only steel parts on the truck It is a straight 6, 1bbl carb. I have never tuned it up, done any major work to it. It starts every time. I would suggest a fluid change, plugs, etc. Basic maintenance. It is a 4spd manual transmission. It does appear to shift well. The clutch seems to be good. Again I have never had it on the road. I can tell you that it appears to be geared for city driving. I would estimate top speed to be roughly 50mph. From what I understand this was an electricians truck down in the city of Chicago back in the day. It does have manual brakes, it looks like it has a booster on it, but it doesnt seem like it does much. It does stop. The emergency brake works. The gauges work. The undercarriage is very clean, no major leaks, no major rust or corrosion. The steering seems to be in good shape. Again I have never had it on the road. There are wooden shelves in the back of the truck, those will stay. All the parts and toolbox will be removed at the end of the auction. As you can see I am still using it. The wheelbase on the truck is 134" overall length is just about 18'. The max GVW is 14,000lbs. The rear leaf springs look like it can haul a lot of cargo. The interior height is about 6' I am 6' and I can stand up inside. I wanted to make this a rat rod of some sort, it just has that cool feel to it. I just do not have the time and would rather sell it than be one of those who hang on to it and let it rust away and become a memory. AGAIN THIS VEHICLE RUNS AND DRIVES, HOWEVER IT HAS NOT BEEN ON THE ROAD IN OVER 7 YEARS IT WILL NEED SOME ELECTRICAL WORK AND REPAIRS BEFORE I WOULD CONSIDER THIS ROADWORTHY. IT IS A RUNNING/DRIVING PROJECT. If you have any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. This is a no reserve auction, and I have it for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction early for a local sale. You are more than welcome to check it out in person before you bid on it. Thanks On Apr-16-11 at 14:03:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Due to the number of emails I took some additional measurements The "cargo" area, behind the driver seat to the rear doors is roughly 11' long. The rear door openings are 39" wide x 70" tall The truck is just a tad over 9' tall Yes there is a passenger seat, it was on a pedastal, but the pedastal broke.
