Although the below numbers are "Official" production figures from Mercedes Benz, they are not actually correct! For instance, in 1955, the Chassis Numbers went from 5500001 through 5501804, with the last 77 cars held over until January 1st, 1956 and included in the 1956 production figures. For 1956, the first actual car built was Chassis Number 6500078 on January 2nd, 1956. The last car built in 1956 was Chassis Number 6504071, but like in 1955, the last few cars (39 in this case) were held at the factory until January 1st, 1957 and included in the 1957 totals. In 1957 the first car built was Chassis Number 7500049 on January 2nd, 1957. In 1958 the first was 8500065 on December 24th, 1957 (yes, 12-24-57), and in 1959 the first was 9500048 on January 5th, 1959. Starting in August, 1959, the factory went to the sequential numbering system, but the trend continued. The first car assembled in 1960 was actually Chassis Number 16076 assembled on January 2nd, 1960. In 1961 the first was Chassis Number 19850, this time on January 5th, 1961. Finally, the first for 1962 was Chassis Number 23541 on January 2nd, 1962. Although no cars were built in 1963, the final 104 cars were officially listed as 1963 models.
