Vehicle Detail

Vintage Maico 400 Magnum - Almost Complete, High Quality Restoration! This Maico is in excellent shape, has an almost complete museum-quality restoration, and is a very desirable vintage off-road race bike. With just a little more work, this bike would be better than brand new. Perfect display bike for your collection or an amazing vintage open bike. The frame decal reads: TYP: MC 400 - BAWJAHR: 19 - FAHRGEST NR: 3363041 - HUBROWM: 388ccm The engine number is: RT3371401 The bike comes with a Bing 54 Carb, Motoplat ignition coil, Magura levers, Akront 21" front rim and Akront 18" rear rim. The tires are worn and should be replaced. The chain is in good shape. It has the stock pipe which is in good shape and only has one small dent (see picture), but does have a DG silencer which has been adapted to fit the bike. The frame has been powder-coated and the kickstarter and shifter have been polished to a chrome-like shine. The front brake stays are polished as well as the rear chain guide. The footpegs are Wheelsmiths and look new. I put new VMX front and rear fenders on the bike and also new sidepanels and front number plate, (not VMX). The Maico has a new Uni filter and also the front brake cable (which is not shown in picture) is a new braided stainless steel cable. I will have it installed prior to the auction's end. The bars are straight and the Magura levers are intact and have not been broken off like many of the levers on these old bikes. The Scott grips are in good shape. The forks are in good condition. The rear shocks have been cleaned and polished and still work, but could probably use a re-build. The rear brake lever has been powder-coated, however the brake cover on the rear hub needs to be straightened out. It has been chewed up a little from a thrown chain. The cylinder is clean, the fins are in good shape and have not been broken. The bike starts and runs great. The transmission shifts smoothly. The compression release works but the bike is missing the kill switch. The gas tank has new decals and is clean inside - no rust or corrosion. It has been repaired on the top lower area in front of the seat. It needs more work to be perfect, but looks fine. Please look at the pictures of the tank! It has a Maico metal gas cap. Overall, this is an extremely clean bike in the final stages of a full restoration. A very rare hard to find bike in this condition!!! With the excception of the tank and rear brake cover I have never seen a cleaner Maico. The pictures do not do the bike justice. I require the deposit paid WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER THE AUCTION CLOSES. I also require the balance to be paid in full within 48 hours after the sale unless PRIOR arrangements have been made. I bill via Paypal unless we agree on cash upon pick-up. Please don't bid on the bike unless you are willing to pay for it. I will have a bill of sale prepared for you on final payment. The bike has no title. The buyer is fully responsible for pick-up or shipping. Please keep me informed of your arrangements and I will help as much as possible. Ultimately, though it is up to you to get the bike picked up.On Mar-31-11 at 20:07:42 PDT, seller added the following information: We just put new airbox and intake boots on the bike.
