Vehicle Detail
This is my 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT powered by a turbocharged Cadillac Northstar V8. The car needs minor work and finishing, please read the description thoroughly. The engine is a 4.6 liter 32 valve V8 Northstar from a 1997 Cadillac (vin9 300hp) with a T4/T61 turbocharger. It has a PWR barrel type liquid/air intercooler with a Cobra heat exchanger mounted at the front of the car. Boost pressure is controlled by a Turbonetics Evolution wastegate, currently set at 5psi (adjustment shims and springs included). A Greddy blow off valve controls compressor surge. The turbo has an oil sump and a pump to return the oil to the engine. EFI is controlled by a Holley Commander 950 ECU which is tunable using a laptop PC and the included software. The injectors are new 36lb/hr from Holley. The transmission is a new (not rebuilt) 4T65E-HD intended for a supercharged 3800. It has a shift kit from Thrasher and a fresh fill of Amsoil synthetic ATF. The transmission is controlled by a Powertrain Control Solutions TCU, also tunable via PC. It has several modes of operation including fully automatic and manual tap shift using the steering wheel mounted buttons. All books and tuning software will be included. The exhaust system is fully ceramic coated by Jet-Hot. The manifolds and crossover are stock GM, the rest is custom made from mandrel bent 304L stainless steel. The catalytic converter can be easily replaced with a straight pipe; it takes one wrench and five minutes to swap it out. Both pieces are included; the Magnaflow converter has never been used. The muffler is a stainless steel Magnaflow with dual exits and dual polished tips. The suspension has been rebuilt with polyurethane bushings and KYB shocks and struts. The front springs are Suspension Techniques which lower the car about 1.5”, rear springs are coil-over with adjustable ride height. The brakes have been upgraded to 12” vented/slotted rotors with zinc plating and the superior ’88 Fiero calipers which have been fully rebuilt and powder coated to match the car. The flexible hoses are DOT approved braided stainless steel. There is a Wilwood adjustable proportioning valve installed for the rear brakes. The front tires are BFGoodrich G-Force Sport TA’s, rears are 245/50R16 Nitto NT555R Extreme Drag radials. I bought the car in 2005. I originally put it together with the stock Fiero trans and I put about 200 miles on it before the trans blew up. A few years ago I replaced the trans with the new 4T65E-HD. I did a lot of other upgrades at that time including the Holley ECU and harness, new TCU and harness, new injectors, shift kit, 12” brakes, Jet-Hot coating, etc. I have not put any significant miles on the car since then. I tuned it just enough to get it running and drivable, at that point I got distracted by other projects and the car has been sitting in that condition until now. It’s tuned very rich to be safe, it does not take full throttle without some feathering, but it will still light up the tires. A good tuner could have it dialed in with a couple hours of dyno time. The car is drivable in it's current state, but I would not recommend driving it more than a few miles before having it professionally tuned. The tires, transmission, and brakes have only a few test drive miles on them. There is some paint damage on the rear bumper. There are some small areas on the hood and front fascia where the paint is cracked or bubbling. There are various other nicks and scratches throughout, but it still has good gloss and overall it looks good for a car of this age. The car was originally equipped with air conditioning but it is no longer working nor complete. The power windows work. The radio is missing. There is a homemade four-point roll bar welded in, it looks neat but I doubt it would pass any certifications. The carpet is new. The seats are new. The driver’s side has a 5 point safety harness. The car has always been garaged and the chassis is rust free. The spare tire and jack are missing. The windshield washer tank needs to be mounted. The center console is included but not shown in the pictures, it was removed to access the ECU/TCU for tuning. I’m ready to start a new project and I could really use the garage space, so I’ve decided to sell this car. I drove the car yesterday to confirm that my description is accurate. All pictures and videos posted here are current and are an accurate representation of the car. There may be other issues that I am unaware of or have forgotten. I encourage serious bidders to contact me to make arrangements to see the car in person. I hold a clear title for the car in my name. Due to the condition of the car I strongly suggest that it be towed to avoid possible engine damage. It can be driven onto a trailer without problem. Payment must be made in full before title transfer and pickup. On Mar-21-11 at 16:48:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I just want to add this to sweeten the deal... I have a complete spare Northstar engine that will be included with the car at no extra charge. There's nothing wrong with the engine in the car, but it doesn't hurt to have a spare.
