1948 Crosley ; Cab and Chassis with custom Stake Bed Truck Body. Great daily driver, hit at shows! Was informed by Crosley "People" that the basis for what I aquired was a "Cab/Chassis". Bodywork from the cab rearward, I designed and made. What was back there when I got the truck was laughable!! Was told it may have been built in the Carolinas' to replace the JEEP on military bases; Again, laughable! The factory sheetmetal behind the seats seems to be unique(any info or thoughts gladdly accepted) and is not from a pickup or any other model I have seen. I had no option but to make something of what I had; so HERE GOES! The Details Known- 1948 Crosley cab, chassis and running gear. Engine: stock with Brage intake, full flow oil filtration, late Carter carb.Had tatal rebuild 2k miles ago.- Large clutch, stock trans.-Stock final drive, with new ring gear bolts and bearings.-Body has all rusted metal replaced; floors,rockers, etc.-Rear body is new construction(4 years old now); I made the rear fenders and valence. -Deck and Stake bed: Steel Framework and White Oak were used in the bed;Very Strong But LIGHT!!! Wood Has Varnish finish;repairable as compared to urathanes.Chassis is stock but fitted with Bendix 9" brakes, HYDRAULIC (juice brakes) from a 1950 Crosley. BIG IMPROVEMENT!!! Painted with PPG system starting with Dp40 epoxy and finished with PPG Concept urethane. All instruments, lights , controles etc. are functional with no troubles. BUT!!!! VACUME WINSHEILD WIPERS ARE WORTHLESS!!- motors were rebuilt, then replaced with "REBUILDS", a vacume tank was installed with check valve, still no good. I do not drive this in the RAIN!! Only weakness it has!! Electric is the answer! Tires are "c" load range bias plies,4 years old. Included in sale is a spare engine (with carry stand) -rebuilt starter, generator-crankcase,new oil pump, misc engine chassis parts,litterature and STUFF! Also to Winning Bidder goes a 1937 MAYTAG MULTIMOTOR hit and miss engine. Runs well; needs a few details. Great Fun; BOTH TRUCK AND MAYTAG! Any questions will be answered promptly. This is a titled,tagged and insured vehicle, used weekly and could be driven to the CROSLEY NATIONALS from Maryland-- IF YOU ARE FEARLESS! Great at 40-45 miles per hour at 48 miles per gallon on regullar gas. I have had it slightley over 60 mph and will admitt it was a little scarey! But GREAT FUN!!
