charvetmagic store 1950 Packard Eight Sedan - 41,000 miles - Nice! 1950 Packard Standard Eight Sedan - 41,000 mile car - Nice! This car spent much of its life in Montana. We are told it was purchased new by a rancher for his wife, and it was driven sparingly by her over the next 40 years as a "Sunday-go-to-meeting" car. It was always garaged and regularly maintained. From examining the car, the mileage of 41,625 has every indication of being correct, although it cannot be documented at this date. The car was sold in the early 2000's to a gentleman in Montana and was purchased by the present owner in Oregon in 2005. The present owner has done the following: • Rebuild starter, generator, regulator. New battery. New cables and plug wires. • Fuel pump and carburetor rebuilt. Gas tank dropped and cleaned. • Heater control valve rebuilt. Windshield wipers rebuilt. • Brakes rebuilt. Master cylinder, wheel cylinder, hoses, drums turned. • Original Ultramatic transmission rebuilt. • New Steele Rubber 4 door and trunk weatherstripping. • New radial tires. Wheel trim rings. Hubcaps. Period Packard amber foglights added. • Over $10,000 in receipts for work done. Cosmetically, the car presents nicely. It was repainted by the previous owner in correct Packard "Arizona Beige". Paint shines well. The car is solid with no rust-out or evident past damage. I did notice a few spots of blistering on the rocker panel beneath the driver's door. Nothing serious, but want to mention it. See photos. The rear bumper, tail lights and trim appear to have been re-chromed and are very nice. The grille and front chrome appears nicely original. The interior has been reupholstered. The glass is original. Garnish moldings and dashboard are original. The outside visor is an original accessory and adds to the great period look. Also has the original and rarely-seen Packard "Golden Anniversary" hood ornament. Mechanically, the car runs good. It has not been driven much recently and would benefit from a tune-up. I took it on a 100 mile local Packard Club tour last weekend and it ran fine in traffic and on the freeway (see last photo.) Original 288 cubic inch straight 8 runs cool although temperature gauge does not register (sender was replaced.) Gas gauge reads sporadically. Headlights, tail lights, turn signals and trunk light work. Heater and defroster work. No radio. The recently rebuilt Ultramatic transmission shifts well. Overall, this is a nice, driver-quality Packard that can be enjoyed for cruising, club events and touring now, or taken to the next level. These cars have a strong following and parts are easily obtainable. FYI, "Old Cars Price Guide" values this car as follows: #1: $19,000. #2: $13,300. #3: $8,550. Offered at a realistic reserve (less than #3, above). When you consider what it would cost to buy a lesser car and bring it to this level, you would far exceed the reserve being asked. Someone is going to get a bargain. *** I am listing this car for a friend. Please ask all questions before bidding and they will be directed to him.
