Vehicle Detail
I purchased this car in the spring of 2005 with 80,436 miles on it from a dealership in New Hampshire. It's originally a Florida car, but was brought up north around 2000. The car was bone stock and has a clean title. As you can see by the mileage that it’s accumulated under my care, it doesn’t see the road too often. In fact, there’s only about 4-5 worthy months out of the year to drive a car like this in the Pittsburgh area. The other months it sits in the garage. It gets an oil change once a year and passes PA state inspection easily. B/c I drive it less than 5,000 miles/yr. it is emissions exempt in my county. It does not have any cats or egr equipment on it. The exterior is stock with the exception of updating the 97-98 tail lights and 97-98 front clear turn signals. It has a full stock interior with the exception of the trunk area (and gauges/switches) which has had some custom work done to it for the stereo and nitrous setup. The engine was pulled out July 2007 and the piston rings and all gaskets/seals were replaced. Original rods, bearings and pistons were used as they checked out fine. Cylinder head was boiled clean, no work was done to it. The valve train is all original, except for HKS 264 cams and new valve stems seals. There was nothing wrong with the engine except a leaking rear main seal but I wanted to go through it thoroughly before upgrading to a single turbo. The car was put on a trailer and moved to Sound Performance in Chicago where the remaining work including setting up the fuel system, installing the 4l80e transmission (a $10,000 upgrade), and all tuning was done. This Supra makes a reliable and potent daily driver and was tuned by Larry Prebis of Sound Performance. All wiring and major work was also done by Sound Performance, so you know it’s clean work and not a hack job. I have receipts for all parts and service performed on the car (well over $35,000). There are approximatey 5,000 miles on the car since going APU. The engine is tight and runs flawlessly. You can see the compression test results below. Many Supra owners will opt for a TH400 transmission when reaching these power levels. The TH400 is a much cheaper option than a 4l80e, and it also greatly detracts from the daily drivability of the car. This is due to having to manually shift the TH400 and also the TH400 does not have O/D, making highway cruises a nuisance with higher rpm's (more exhaust noise) and less fuel mileage. The 4l80e is as strong as a TH400 and the AEM standalone shifts the car like it’s the normal stock automatic. Built toyota automatics have improved, but they still cannot handle anywhere near the power this 4l80e setup can. Unlike built toyota autos, there's no pulling back timing on wide open throttle shifts with this 4l80e transmission. And I've only heard of a few lucky guys getting a built toyota auto that does not have jawbreaking shifts. The 4l80e shifts as smooth as the stock auto and can handle much more power than a built toyota auto. There are roughly less than 6 Supras in existence running a 4l80e and this is the only one which has maintained the stock shifter setup (a $1,000 modification on top of the $10,000 transmission kit/install). Reliability and Performance: I have driven it to the track, run a 10.86 at 130 mph and driven home with the A/C blowing ice cold. This was with just 25 lbs. of boost, with the car spinning and a very brief 50 shot to spool the turbo up to 14 psi. This Supra will easily break into the 9’s with this setup and as I mentioned above is great as a dd. It made 564 rwhp on a VERY conservative Mustang Dyno at 26 psi on a very safe tune and unlocked converter (3800 stall). It also had a boost leak (which has been fixed) when it made the pull, causing the afr's to go very rich. It has been retuned by Larry Prebis and should have no problem putting down 650-700 rwhp at 30 psi. My goal for this Supra was to have a DD capable beast with all of the creature comforts of a nicely equipped stock vehicle that would be unbeatable on the street and feared at the track. Overall I give the paint an 8/10. It has the usual fine scratches, faded areas, and paint chips that you’ll see on 16 year old car. Under a coat of wax, most everything but the paint chips and a few scratches on the front bumper disappear. I was going to respray the hood and front bumper, and remove the license plate holder, but I don't know where she's going. Plus if it's driven to a new home, it'll just get stone chips anyway. The clear paint on the rear quarters is peeling in a few very small areas, see pic below. How the Nitrous System Works: There are two switches on the console around stock traction control button which is now the line lock button (and can be seen on the pictures). One is to activate the nitrous system and the other is to power the bottle heaters. If you don't want to run nitrous, simply have the switch turned off. The remote bottle opener switches are located in the console along with the electronic nitrous pressure gauge. The bottles are held in with Powerhouse Racing billet bottle holders. The bases are mounted in the car while holders are attached to the bottle. The bottles can be put in and removed from the car in 5 minutes as there are push pins that mount the bottle holders to the base of the brackets. There is no need to hook up your laptop to activate the nitrous either, once the switch is turned on the aem knows to spray and the tune is adjusted for it. I am willing to answer any and all question regarding this setup. Also, there is still a lot of room to put items in the trunk. Yes, the targa top does still fit in the trunk with Nazaar's dual 10" magic box. I believe in full disclosure and these are the imperfect items associated with this car, none of which affects the reliability of this vehicle at all: -Pass. Side door is missing its original VIN tag due to a light accident and the body shop removing the tag. All other VIN tags are in place, including etched in on all of the glass, including the pass. door which is how you know the door was not replaced. -Clear coat is peeling slightly on the back quarter panel around the hatch (see picture below) -Rear bumper is slightly uneven on the pass side only, near the tail light, you cannot really tell unless you're looking for gap differences between the 2 sides (see pic below). -Front washer spray does not work (I replaced the pump and it still won’t spray wiper fluid to the front, the rear works fine). -The battery will run down after a week or so if the car is not run, this is due to the stereo cap and alarm system. Also, the rear tires will need to be replaced. There are currently Mickey Thompson E.T. Street Radials mounted and there's not much tread left. If the car sells for the buy it now price, I will put new tires on the rear of the car for the new owner. I have put as much description in here as I can possibly remember. I've worked long and hard to get this beauty to where she is and she'll make someone very happy. If you are looking for a fast street car that you can run at the track and also have toyota reliability, this is the car you're looking for. Please do not bid on this vehicle if you do not have the funds to purchase. If you anticipate buying the car, please have cash or financing approved and ready before bidding. Full payment should be received within 7 calendar days of auction close. Thanks and good luck! I've included a picture of the car after a wash with the Volk Rims. These Volks are not part of this auction, I just wanted to show what the paint looks like when it is clean. On Mar-03-11 at 08:39:32 PST, seller added the following information: Edit: Just to clarify, the car comes with a Precision dual ball bearing 71mm gts turbo. The Powerhouse Racing Stage 2+ kit comes with a 67mm turbo. I sold the 67mm turbo (which is the "minus 67mm turbo" in my ad above) and put the 71mm in its place. Sorry for the confusion. Also, the battery will run down after a week due to the alarm system. This is because it has a bright, blinking LED warning light which drains the battery if the car isn't run every few days. This is common for these types of aftermarket alarms.
