Vehicle Detail
Ok "GTO" fans listen up !! You're looking at a very rare "from the factory" TIGER GOLD COLOR car with "PHS" papers. Now you have all heard the story of the Hurst Tiger Gold give-away cars that happened in 1965, so I won't bore you with that, but the original ones caused such a stir that Pontiac decided to roll off a limited production version of the "Tiger Gold" color. in late '65. IN 1966 & '67 it was also a special order paint, and still rare, but the rarest and least produced are for '65. In 1965 it was a special coded "number" stamped on the info tag (cowl tag) and not a letter code like the other regular production paint codes. There seems to be some conflict as to what the actual number for Tiger Gold is. Some will tell you that "0" is the correct code, and I have personally seen that on a '65 (and all "0" codes were on 66-67). However the number "2" is also a special paint code for late '65 Tiger Gold, and the car I have shows "2A SPEC", ( 2 is for the Tiger Gold top and bottom, and the A is for pinstripe color ), and has the original factory sprayed Tiger Gold paint still on it. ( NOT REPAINTED ) !! Don't look for this paint code on any color charts for '65, cause you're not likely to find it. Fact is that even on the PHS papers I have for this car, it shows the #2 for paint, but go's on to say that color is unknown. This is something similar to finding a " COPO " Chevrolet car with docs. No one seems to know for sure how many were built with this special "2" code paint, but the general word is that its that it's very low, making it a very rare, special production vehicle. And, as all you GTO experts know, 65 was an option year for the GTO and not a seperate model, (like 66 and up), which makes it even more rare when it can be proven with the PHS papers. I'll go as far as to say that most of you have never seen one, and even the most seasoned GTO people have only seen 1 or 2. And if you have seen one, it's likely been a long time between sightings. In the almost 20 years I have owned this car, I have only actually seen two of them. One with the "0" code and one with the "2" code, both were at a Mecum Auction and the one with the "2" code brought much more money, and both sold way above what average GTO's are bringing. And that is in a soft market ! But do your own research on this and good luck finding anything. You may have to spend alot of time on it !! DESCRIPTION This car came out of Texas many years ago, and between a friend of mine in Dallas, and myself as owners, this car has been in dry storage ever since. From the factory the car was equipped with the standard GTO option package with the 4 bbl 335 hp engine and auto trans. ( believe it or not, not all Gto's came with 3 dueces and a 4 speed, as some would like you to believe ) Other options include power steering & brakes, and factory A/C., and also came with accessary wire wheel covers. As it sits now, the car is incomplete and is missing some of the front sheet metal, and does "NOT" have the original engine or trans. I do have a repairable GTO hood and one front fender (non gto), but is missing the inner fender wells and the L/S fender. I also have the correct radiator support and both the grills (in very nice cond), and supports and most of the splash panels. The body itself is extremely solid and will require only minimum repair work. The r/s lower 1/4 panel behind the wheel opening will need to be replaced (see pic), and that is all for the outside body. The only floor work to be done is a small area (less than a sq ft) on the rear driver side foot panel (see pic), and a very small hole in the trunk area (see pic). In my opinion, the trunk floor is good and solid, with mostly only surface rust showing, and would just need a repair to the small hole and then clean up the rest with out replacing the complete area. Everything else is rock solid including the window channels - dash area - rocker structure - wheel openings - rain & weatherstrip gutters. The primer areas you see are not rust repairs, but just some cosmetic work started. The gold paint you see is the factory original and is blistered in places, but not rusted. The body and frame on this car are a restorer's dream, and I can't stress enough how really solid everything is. I'm not sure if the frame is original or been replaced, or restored at some time, but is very clean and straight with little to no rust at all. All the glass and what's left of the interior is in exceptional condition. The original seats are still in above average condition (almost show), but the door panels - headliner - and carpet are missing. I do have a complete rally dash with tach and a pristeen automatic console. Most of the dash trim pieces, including the grab bar, are in excellent shape and will need only minimum restoration. (mostly cleaning). As for outside trim & mouldings, some is missing, but you would want to use new parts anyway on a restoration of this level. I do happen to have a very nice used trunk moulding piece, which is very hard to come by in any condition. I also have some new parts (including a rechrome rear bumper) that I have bought over the years, and these are included in the sale. Because the car is apart and in pieces, I can't possibily put into this ad all the parts I have, or all the parts that are missing, so if there is something in particular you need to know about, please ask before you commit to buying. Do not assume anything till you know for sure ! And if you need additional Pictures of anything not shown, again, please ask and I will send you pics. (please include your email address). Now - Once again, there is "NO MOTOR" or "TRANSMISSION" included in this sale !! However, I do have a excellent 389 long block engine that is perfectly casted & dated for this car that I will sell seperately to the buyer. The 389 is assembled and ready to drop in, but is "NOT" included with the sale of the car. This 389 does not have the correct "YS" code needed for this car, but is dated perfect for the build date of the body. I have a clean Texas Title in my friend's name, and signed by him but not assigned to anyone. (open title). My name is also on the title as a previous owner. (we passed it around a few times). Please do not ask for the last 4 didgits of the VIN#. I will not give it out. You do not need it for any decoding, and I do not want any copy cars or clones to happen along. There are enough scams out there already. The numbers on the Title - The VIN Tag - And the PHS papers all match correctly and have not been tampered with. Also, I will answer all questions, but I will not respond to questions about my reserve, and I will not respond to low-ball offers. The car is rare, therefore it is priced accordingly, but is reasonable. Good luck, and please be a responsible bidder !!
