Vehicle Detail
Original, never restored. The X1/9 Bertone has never been restored. It is an all-original with almost no rust. It was repainted once, many years ago, but otherwise virtually everything is as it came from the factory. Also, it is mechanically sound and I'd take it anywhere. It starts first time, every time and there are no known mechanical issues. I bought this car two years ago with the intention of restoring it, but ended up using it as my daily driver for two summers. I've talked to some of the previous owners (all from this area) and they said it was always garaged. None of the plastic is sun damaged, including the dashboard. I've been running it in the Black Hills of South Dakota from May to December (or until the first snow) ... it's a summer car. It does not have A/C and the heater is poor. The engine is the factory standard, fuel-injected in-line four, transversely mounted with a 5-speed gearbox. It shifts smoothly and there are no issues with the clutch or transmission. It is a great road handling car that's lots of fun on mountain roads. Virtually everything works and there's no broken of missing glass or other parts except for a plastic cover on the driver's door handle. The only major issue is that the stitching on the driver's seat has come out, but the leather and fabric is still good so an upholstery shop could sew it back together. This car has always been well cared for. It even includes the original owner's manual (although it got wet once and some of the pages are stuck together.) As it stands, it's good, reliable transportation that you can drive home. If you're thinking restoration, it's a perfect candidate. There's no rusted out body parts and as far as I know, no Bondo. It's never been in an accident and the body has only a few small dings. Even the electrics work (rare for an old Fiat). The clock works too.
