Vehicle Detail
Originall owned by Don miller this 1959 Bug Eye was raced in SCCA races from 1967 to 1975. This car set the H-Production Class Track Record at Indianapolis raceway Park during the Indy region SCCA Nationalsin October of 1970. All of the body is original, mechanicals and suspension are the original race parts. Most of the parts are original one-offs by Don Miller himself. All of the electrical components have been brought to modern specs, the rest of the car was left as close to race spec as possible. This Sprite is legal to drive on public roads but make no mistake this is still a racer straight from the 60's but just barely tame enough to drive on the street. With the addition of a roll bar and some minor safety equipment this car would be ready for some weekend fun on your favorite track. The flags on the rear deck are magnets covering the holes for the installation of a roll cage. two Brooklands wind screens are in place to keep the bugs out of your teeth but not much more. The wheels shown on the car are 100 spoke wire wheels that are true knock off wheels in 15 inch with great rubber. There is also 2 additional sets of aluminum race wheels that come with car as well as lots of additional original parts. On Feb-24-11 at 17:20:26 PST, seller added the following information:The mechanicals of the car are the original parts that were modified for racing in H Production class back in the 1960's and 1970's. All of the original modifications were made by Don Miller (Don Miller Engineering) the owner and driver of this car. The engine is the original 948 that has been bored +30 over stock with high compression flat top pistons. The crank is of original make(not sure if original to the vehicle)and has been knife edged, lightened, drilled with oil restrictors in place and balanced. The flywheel is a lightened steel flywheelwith modern clutch assebly. The head is original steel that was modified by Don Miller as is the camshaft that was custom ground by Don. The specs on the camshaft are unknown to anyone except Don Miller himself. The carbs are also original to the time but probably not the car and have been modified to match the additional flow needed at the higher RPM levels that this engine is capable of running. The transmission is of original time period and is a close ratio 4 speed in a ribbed case. The rear axle is stock except for the gear ratio that is unknown (there are no numbers on the ring or pinion). It is a taller gear set as this was a road race car. The engine electronics consist of a new Flame Thrower distributor and coil for reliability. The interior is all custom and is not original. The shocks are modified originals and the brakes are pretty much stock rotors (new) in the front and drums on the rear. The entire car has been lowered through the use of spacers in the fron and custom springs and custom made adjustable upper radius arms and the rear axle is located through a panhard bar. This car is being sold as is without a warranty. It is available for inspection by appointment only.
