Vehicle Detail
I just picked up this beautiful West Coast Car. It runs flawless, looks good and sounds just right. We have had a break in the weather here and I have enjoyed driving this car all week - it is a real blast to drive. This is a really nice turn key C3 1968 Corvette Coupe. One of only 9,936 Coupe's produced by Chevrolet. This car came out of the San Joaquin Valley and is a perfect example of a dry desert car. The car has been adult owned, loved and driven its whole life and it really shows. Originally the car was blue on blue now it wears one nicely done repaint. Painted back in the late 70s early 80s by the looks/style of it. It is a gorgeous Silver Metallic with a Lavender undertone that's obviously pro sprayed as the metallic is laid down very evenly (not easy to do). Then the car was Hand Pin Striped very tastefully by the one and only Tom Hecht, who had a lot of brush time on 60s dragsters and hot rods of that era (striping & accent's are in the engine compartment also typical of a "show car" during that time). The paint now show's sun fade, chips, bubble's and 30+ years of garage rubs although it is presentable and I would give it a score of good driver quality, down from the show winning quality it was all those years ago.....but this car turn's heads quickly as it's rolling by even today. All the chrome bumper's, grill's, lenses and exterior hardware are in what I would consider very nice original condition with no signs of damage or phony replacement's. The running gear is superb in this car. Powered by a powerful small block Chevrolet V8 motor (motor numbers listed below) this car really will get up and go and lay you back in the seat with this combination (power to weight is just right with this small block 4 speed set up). Holley 650 with a Edelbrock Torker manifold delivering fuel. MSD ignition system working perfectly. Stock exhaust manifolds dumping into dual exhaust out the back sounds amazing. Performance flywheel with the correct Muncie 4 speed shifting up and down smoothly like butter. Stock radiator, shroud, filler tank and fan handles the cooling system without issue. Stock 68 independent rear end puts the power down perfectly and is a no noise smooth and tight sounding differential. Car is rolling on it's stock 15" Corvette Rallye Wheels with a nice set of original trim ring's and caps. Tire's are 50% and are Michelin Pilot's 195/65/15. The Manual steering put's the feel of the road in the steering wheel which is great for cornering. Front suspension is responsive with no lag, bump steer or slop in it. Power brakes have a good feel and excellent pedal. The car drives straight with no pull left or right rolling freely down the road. The car brake's straight and quickly. The interior is uncut and retains all it's original part's and piece's. The only modification is the original blue was dyed black most likely during the repaint period. The original seats are still soft but show some age and there is blue area's where the black is wearing off in several places. The back side of the console is cracked (where your elbow goes when your getting into the car). The carpet and padding is shot and will need to be replaced both on the floor and in the trunk area (its original and dried up). The door panels are good with small imperfection's easily fixed by a good vinyl guy, they have both pulled away slightly at the front of the door and will need to be re-attached. Dash, gauges and steering wheel are in beautiful condition with needing only mild freshening up (some touch up paint) here and there. All the original glass is good. There is a tiny rock chip in the windshield on the driver's side just below the line of sight. Power windows are both working. The T Tops are really nice and fit perfect (they do rattle a bit but don’t leak when washing the car). Door hinges and mechanism's are tight and close perfectly with a light swing (unlike most of these car's). Pillar weather stripping will need replacing. Radio and Power Antenna are non op currently but likely just a fuse as I haven't checked yet. Light's and signals are all working. Key buzzer is working. Clock & Horn are non op. Speedo is working but is slow. Odometer reads just under 70k which judging by the overall condition, drive of the car and the undercarriage this may be correct (although I have no corresponding proof so the car is being sold as "mileage unknown"). Tachometer, Fuel, Temp, Alternator gauge's all working perfectly. This Stingray is NOT for sale locally although if you’re a serious bidder and are in Northern California we can sure go for a drive (weather permitting). I urge you to ask questions (there are no stupid questions) and learn every detail you can before bidding on this car. I am not a "Corvette Guy" and have not gone through this car with a magnifying glass looking at number's nor do I care to. Yes, the car has a original big block 427 hood on it but I have no idea if this was an original Big Block car OR if the motor in it now is the original 1968 327 cubic inch motor OR something else. I am just a classic car enthusiast who like's great ride's and can appreciate them for what they are and how they perform, beyond that I want to just simply drive them. The only reason I am considering selling this car is because I'm 6'6" tall and at that height squeezing in and out of a Corvette just doesn't work for me (also every time I shift I flip the right hand blinker on with my knee). I have clear California Title on the car in my hand. I will ship anywhere in the world as long as you pay for it. I will load it here onto your transport free of charge and store the car up to 1 month free of charge after I have been paid in FULL. If your outside the U.S. I can help arrange International Shipping for you through Oakland California or Long Beach California - I will deliver the car to the shipper's in my car trailer for a reasonable fee - please contact me through Ebay for a price quote for this service prior to bidding. People with 0 bidder status please contact me before bidding otherwise I will remove your bid. These auction's are not a game and I take them very seriously so should you. If you don't have the fund's or haven't told your wife or husband yet please don't bid and ruin it for the next guy. This auction will run to the end so it's fair for even you quiet type's out there waiting until the last moment to bid. The video and pictures were shot in front of my house today, so they are as current as possible. I was running the car reasonably hard for the video and don't make it a habit of driving that way, just simply trying to get the POINT across the car runs out hard and smooth - like a good Corvette should...right? I will be glad to take specific picture's of any areas on the car for you if need be, please just ask. Best of Luck and this 68 will make this Summer something to remember for somebody - guaranteed.
