Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a very rare 1936 FORD V8 DUAL PURPOSE 2 DOOR SEDAN OR BOULEVARD DELIVERY. This unique body style was offered in very limited numbers by Ford Motor Company in 1934, 1935 and 1936, and features a Briggs body conversion. This sedan was taken off the Ford assembly line WHERE A REAR DOOR WAS ADDED, similar to, but not the same as the Sedan Delivery body (SEE PHOTOS). This conversion was marketed to special business customers (florists, radio repair servicemen, surveyors) who needed a commercial vehicle that could also transport the family during off hours. National Cash Register and The Tennessee Valley Authority of Roosevelt's "New Deal" were customers of these special Fords. This specific model was the subject of an article by Don Rogers in the May/June 2010 issue of the V8 Times. While the total production of these cars in 1936 is unknown, there were probably only a few thousand produced. Very few survivors remain today, as this commercial version usually received far more wear and tear than the average 2 door. This particular car has never been restored, and as you would expect some restoration is needed. This 36 has been stored away for many years in a private collection. What you see may be the original black paint. This 3 door is based on what I believe was a standard 2 door, with painted windshield frame, single wiper and rear tail light. The car overall is very solid. I believe the floor may have been repalced, and at that point the battery box was moved to the rear. The doors open and close as they should, and all of the exterior sheet metal is present. The wood trim at the rear door bottom needs to be replaced. The left rear fender has a small section missing at the bottom where it meets the running board, but a patch from any one of the Ford restoration parts suppliers will give you the metal section you would need to repair it. What remains of the original Ford interior is there, both front bucket seats with rear bench. The driver's side rear window is missing. The gauges and glove box door are present and look very good. The mileage reads 63000, and it is very possible it's original. As far as the engine and drive train, I believe this car does have the original flat head, but I did notice one head was replaced at some point. The engine is free but I have not had it running. With this cold weather, I will not attempt it. This car steers and rolls, and could easily be put on a trailer. This car comes with a clear Rhode Island title (last registered 1969), and a Connecticut bill of sale. It was never registered here in Connecticut. If you are looking for a special limited production car to get in on the 1936 Ford's 75th anniversary in 2011, here is your chance. You are not likely to see another one like it for sale anytime soon, don't miss out. Please review the enclosed photos and e-mail any questions you may have. My contact/business phone is 860-627-5806 for serious inquiries. If I am not available, there is voice mail. I will try to answer you questions as accurately as I can. Please note that I reserve the right to sell this vehicle at anytime, as it is advertised locally. A $500 non refundable deposit is due within 3 days after the close of the auction. The balance is due within 7 days by certified check or wire transfer. No stories, no exceptions. I can store the car for up to a month until transport can be arranged, provided it is paid in full. Good luck, and thank you for looking at this very special Ford V8. Regards---D On Feb-13-11 at 15:24:14 PST, seller added the following information: One Correction......Although this car was last registered in Rhode Island in 1969 it does not have a Rhode Island title. This Ford was purchased by my father from a friend in Massachusetts in 1977. It has been in a collection since. This car is sold with a Connecticut Bill of Sale, as well as copies of the previous paperwork from 1977. As Connecticut does not require a title for vehicles prior to 1981, and this car was never registered in Massachusetts or Connecticut there is no title from either state. We will include a letter to this effect with purchase if required.---D
