For your viewing pleasure: *** A TRUE SURVIVOR *** 1959 Edsel Ranger 4door Sedan. Here is the history: In the town of Anderson, California is an automotive machine shop (Keeton’s) that everyone in the 60’s knew was the hot spot for engine work around the Redding area. Old man Keeton bought this metallic blue baby for his sweetie and he personally maintained it. After she and he passed on, this wonderful relic just sat out behind the machine shop. One day a couple of years ago, some young guy did a little work for the machine shop owner (the son-in-law of old man Keeton) and he got the car in trade. Course, he used a screwdriver to punch open the driver’s door lock instead of talking to a locksmith. Anyway, I bought it from him. It was quite a site, sitting on four rotten and flat tires. So, that brings us to today. I had planned on a total restoration but my plans have changed and I’m forced to downsize. Anyway, have is where the car is today: I brought it home and removed the gas tank and cleaned it out. I cleaned the fuel lines and pulled the carb off my running Edsel and bolted it on. New gas and oil & filter were put in and the battery from the other Edsel. Put Marvel Mystery Oil down the plug holes every day for a week and turned the motor by hand each day. New plugs were installed and it was time. Course, she just cranked and wouldn’t fire. Anyway, after pulling the dual points setup (old man Keeton was a head of his time) and replacing them with an electronic setup, she fired off and actually ran good. After topping off the transmission fluid, I even got her to motivating back and forth a little. I installed a new brake booster and master cylinder and rebuilt all the wheel cylinders, that only needed honing. The original master cylinder and booster will come with the car also. The upholster and headliner are shot. I pulled out the headliner and we started to reupholster the rear seats. The base is done and the back was almost complete when my friend doing the work passed away. I have all of the door handles and locks. I got a new button lock for the door and i have the trunk lock too. I don't have any keys though. The body is in remarkable shape, especially considering it sat out for 20 years. Thank God for our sunny California weather. I checked over the body and I’ve found about a half dozen small bubbles under the paint along the bottom of the fenders and doors, none of which is larger than a pencil eraser. There is some bubbling under the rear license panel. Speaking of license, she still has the original black and yellow plates. The car is also non-op’ed and in my name with a clear title. I can find no rot through anywhere on the car. Even the trunk is in great shape, with some rust under where the spare tire sits, but can’t find any rot through. The canyons at the bottom of each rear fender has a little surface rust but no rot. Looks good under the floor panels too. The odometer shows 16,278 and considering the shape of this beauty, I believe this is accurate and correct. The inspection plate revealed the following: Body-58D (4dr sedan), Color-LE1 (Star Blue Metallic and Snow White Roof and accents), Trim- 24 (light and dark blue interior), Trans-3 (mile-o-matic 2speed), Axle-1 (3.10:1) and Date-22M. Everything matches the inspection plate that I could find. You will need a trailer, etc with a winch as it's currently not running with this carb (needs rebuilding). So, here is your opportunity to get a fine survivor, that is in excellent shape, especially considering she is 51 years of age.
